Im after a new (or new to me) laptop, but the budget is very low. Looking at poss second hand being the way to get a decent spec machine, but would have a top budget of £200 for it, and about £300 new. Any pointers? Its just for browsing, and stuff, not using for DJing ect.
To much power? NEVER.

I'd say go for a used Dell Latitude or Vostro, or a Thinkpad e.g. T61 .... for a general purpose machine of good quality. The T61 seem to go for 120-140 on the bay ..... if you want battery life, most likely you'd need to replace that .... 30-40 on top .....

I'd much prefer one of these to a cheapie new one. Definitely avoid the PCworld brands like eMachines, Advent et al. I'd say avoid Sony also.

+1 on an old Thinkpad. Upgrade to 2GB memory and load Ubuntu 10.04. Lightning fast! I've got it on an old X60s. The whole lot cost just over £100 inc new memory and hard drive.
