Hiya,

Trying to determine my crossover / output points based on the gear I'm after cause I'm looking to get a custom preamp built asap.

Current set-up:
Drivers
(4) Fane Colossus Studio 18b = low (have 2, looking for another pair, 2 double bass reflex Fane 200L plan stacked to create old-style quad-box)
(2) Fane Colossus / Studio 12MB = mids (thinking Fane angled Mid/High cabinet, counter/other suggestions???)
(2) Compression Horns??? = mid-hi / hi (not sure here, thinking of 1.4" or 2" in order to get down to 850Hz. Willing to go modern driver Beyma/B&C here if sound is superior, or secondhand JBL and Fane)
(4) Fane 5022 bullet tweeters = hi

Amps
Crest 8001 = Bass
Crest 7001/6001 = Mid Bass
RSD Studiomaster = Mid-tops / Highs

Backup amps:
BGW 750B
Peavey CS-1000

Initial thoughts on x/o points for 3-way:
bass = / 100Hz
mids = 100Hz - 3.5kHz (seems a stretch)
his = 3.5kHz /

Also looking for thoughts on x/o points for running this 4-way (based on proposed or other recommended drivers): would be nice to go 4-way and still have the option to run 3-way when needed.

Anything you'd do differently?
Suggestions for other drivers?
More that I need to sort out?

Type of Sound:
Size: Small-ish Medium sound for playing small pubs, community centers, outdoor, private parties, etc.
Sound: Solid, "of the era," authentic-inspired vintage reggae sound (rocksteady/roots/dancehall/mid 80s digi) using components from the late 70s early 80s (and modern pieces where more practical) with emphasis on quality. Less concerned about blistering volume and more concerned with quality, fullness of sound.

Appreciate any and all feedback.

Vintage I'd say lose the mid Fanes and compression's and use dual (whizzer) mid cones straight to bullets.
Real world today, nearly spot on but bring compression's down to 2k or so
100hz is spot on for the 200l Fane box, done it lots.
Careful with 8001 on four Studio B's. Triple good luck finding more, stunning driver.
It's everything, not everythink!

Thanks Nicky,
Appreciate the whizzer reco, will give it some thought.
Any particular one in mind?

What's the watch-out on the 8001?

Thanks for the link, I'll take a stroll through that thread—looks a good discussion.

Still debating how to handle the mid-range spectrum, either going with:
18s
12s
1" or 1.5" comp driver
bullet tweets (Fane 5022)

crossing at —100Hz bass / 100Hz — 2kHz mids / 2kHz — 6kHz / 6kHz — tops

vs.

18s
15s
2" comp driver
bullet tweets (Fane 5022)

crossing at —100Hz bass / 100Hz — 900Hz mids / 900Hz — 6kHz comps, not sure here??? / 6kHz —

On the 8001:
those Fane Col 18s are rated at 400w each which = @1200w total for the quad-box so I was planning on running the 8001 at 4ohm, (which gives @ 1225w per channe = 2450w total).

I know that clocks in a little bit north of the ideal 1.5/1.7/2x rule, but that's not such a bad thing though right?
