got an interesting one here, wondering if anyone can shed any light.

Crown Macrotech MA3600VZ

Fairly new, clean & tidy.

Problem is, it throws out the main 20A mcb when it's switched off

i thought that too!

to clarify do you mean when you switch the amp off (when it was previously switched on), or when you connect the amp to mains with it's switch in the off position?

Simple solution: tape over the switch and fit it with one of these fancy True1 Powercons, tell the user to switch it on and off with that!

Thanks, you've all been most helpful!

It trips the mcb as you are turning it off, whether at the front panel switch or at the wall socket.

That's worrying because surely to trip as you turn it off at the wall, it must be causing the switch to arc over?

Some kind of fault with the transformer whereby it's storing a massive amount of energy?  Or somehow there is a spike being created on the secondary side and going back through the transformer?  Doesn't sound good either way!

Have you tried it with the old 100W lamp in series with the mains trick and see what happens when you turn it off?

Ive had it before with thyristor controlled loads where the thyristors are retriggering due to dv/dt but the 3600 doesnt have thyristor control

Does it behave normally when it's running?  Any evidence of issues with the VZ circuitry?  Must admit I generally avoid the larger Macrotechs, not my speciality.

Perhaps a faulty MCB?
