Well spotted Ian, just bins and horns. Those old JBL 2482's did drop pretty low but didn't make the nicest of mid.... I think you'll agree, Philishaves were quite an improvement.

There was an old martin leaflet with their "suggested systems" on it,the basic one (the entry level) was a pair of 115 w-bins,and the HF2 radial plonked on top, crossed passively at 700hz.
But of course,as we all know,midrange wasn't invented till around 1977/78! |

I can't get into that link, it needs the evil Flash plugin...
However, there was a transitional period of a few years, in between the "115/215 - plus bored-out Vitavox" systems and the Philishave era, when direct radiating mid cabinets were supplied. There was a 2x12" with angled baffles (MR212), and a 3x12" with the centre baffle facing forwards and the outer baffles angled (MR312). These were fitted with ATC drive units and were intended to be used between 300 and 1800 Hz in tri-amplified systems. Each box had an autotransformer which performed the dual roles of adjustable impedance matching and crowbar protection against the effects of amplifiers going DC. |

I bet those 3 x 12 ATC loaded boxes sounded nice.
PM me your email address and I'll send you the PDF if that helps. Edited by Nachural - 14 September 2011 at 8:29pm |

They were giving it away at PLASA... I was going to offer to post you my copy as I was going to throw it away but then I noticed you're on the other side of the world!

By the way. Are those tweeter boxes in the photo jbl_man posted re ST4. I've never actually seen one before even though I know its probably no different to any other tweeter box out there.

Something that I've been meaning to ask. I bought a bunch of 115's a while ago and they're all genuine (badges and serial plates) except there is one that doesn't look right. It has a serial plate but has been painted over and I can't make out the indented number. But its the overall appearance that confuses me. The back of the box is about an inch thinner than the rest which also makes the flares a little longer. The handles on the side are different too, as well as being directly centred. All the boxes I've ever seen have the handles skewed. When the box is opened the back panel and inside are constructed slightly different too.
Does anyone know if early on they were made a little different, since the rest of the boxes I have are all consecutive serial numbers. Perhaps its just a copy someone has just put together and slapped a badge and serial plate onto, which seems odd to me
