Hi,
been here a while now and less of it goes over my head every day but please be patient... have been thinking about getting back into the festival game and remember noise police often having a 200watt limit on after hours/camp site sound... given the numpties that will be demanding proof of power it will need to be passively crossed over and have a very obvious "200" on the amp - was thinking more of an after hours system for the sort of tents i used to work so would have 240 supply... maybe having a 12v amp in case of genny death/weekend off will mainly have acoustic acts and a few mellower dj's going through it, low end would be good but have to prioritise a strong vocal range simple build is a must, dont want to fork out a fortune on drivers either but havent really put a budget on it - maybe a grand all in? oh, and would be nice if it could handle vocal duty on occasions when inevitably "festival traffic" (i think this translates as "bar" most of the time) brings in a full band two hours late any thoughts?

A 200W limit? Never heard of that before. 200W into a highly efficient horn loaded system will be seriously loud.
Surely any 'noise police' will go on dB level? |

its a weard one but had it come up at a few including pilton... i think its so that there is an unequivocal point where you're breaking the rules without them needing a db meter to refer to
the dr 200 looks like quite a cab tho as my first build since i've gained half a clue it might be wise to settle on something simpler judging by build pics (apart from the ports it looks a bit like a mini w bin with a row of hf in the front?), i know what i said before but a slightly fatter low end would be nice and stop 101 comments from punters who would have me turn it all clockwise - audible at 50 would be nice, and probably dont need to be reaching quite those peaks higher up ;) Edited by fizz - 17 February 2012 at 11:42pm |

If you're too loud they're going to shut you down anyway, 200W is an idiots guide because most people don't have a clue besides that figure.

yup its retarded but if your gona play in their field you've got to play by their rules... ive had it go both ways - been shut down for having too many watts and been the only sounds playing on a site because i had less... keeping the volume at an acceptable level isn't a concern until on a site - having the volume to keep is more the point for the moment...

speaking as a dad of two kids,id be none too happy if the campers next door had a 200w system. Ghetto blaster yes...out of tune hippie guitar shit yes...staring into the fire shroom tea drumming.... no problem...none too discreet caning and passing the plate/cd/spliff/mirror/wrap...what do you expect, its a festival....but...200w system outside the tent having been up 2 nights and needing to get the kids there breakfast in the morning....NFW!

@phildat - im not up for ruining anyones weekend... unlikely you'd find me in the punter fields at a festie let alone with something worth more than a packet of biscuits and cranking it up in crew camping is just not fare... it's meant for venues, moors and beaches where those around want to hear it, most likely what youve listed above going on all the same ;)
@ Kingkwak - thought about this a bit tho i wouldn't know where to look and it's as much the challenge that interests me as the getting round the regs (also the low energy consumption of an efficient system has its share of merrits) ok... um, try a different question, any thoughts on efficient, low powered drivers?.. maybe a suitable reflex (or simple horn) cab to boot?..
