I have designed a Quasi-6th Order Series-Tuned BP

its designed for the kappa 15lf

it is 155.5l compared the the hd15 which is 169.7l

driver displacement isn't a problem at 500w it doesn't go over its xmax.

it is 600 x 600 x 432

Simmed in 2pi

I will try and get some built over the next few weeks :D

I have simmed a few other drivers as well and it seems to work well with a lot of 15" drivers

It can go down to 70hz without any excursion problems and it groups of 4 are flat down to 80hz.

I simmed these and they all looked good:

pd1550
fane colossus 15xb
pd154

I have a feeling i might need to make the port a little bit shorter though.

This is the pd1550, black, against the kappa 15lf, grey

This is 4 kappa 15lf loaded:

How does it look in 4pi? Kickbins are hardly ever on the ground.

I would sim it as a tapped horn with a throat chamber.

I don't think you would be able to get it any smaller to suit a 12" driver though, try simming 12" drivers in it.

You could try inverting the driver, which would make the rear chamber bigger and the mouth volume smaller then moving the mouth to the edge which would do the opposite which would potentially balance out. This would make the horn mouth bigger.

EDIT:

as the horn ends against the edge of the box I would make it slightly longer in the sim to compensate.

Cubo 15 sims well up to 160 Hz but mostly sounds right up to 110 Hz, all hybrids I've build exhibited the same sound vs simulation behaviour. As soon as the phase response starts to climb up again be wary of it's sound.

Some of my conclusions when it comes to building hybrids for kick: (very) large mouth, small chamber, driver with magnet inside the chamber. Assume it's going to have an one-octave-bandwidth, perhaps just a bit more.

Regards Johan

Did you build any prototypes with a chamber as small as 30L?

I will build it and see how it sounds that high, the small chamber might help.

If not I could dampen the chamber and make the port a little shorter.

I see. Thanks for the help! its a struggle to find a suitable design for such an important freq range (100 - 300/400hz), especially one that would be phase coherant with cubo18.
Thanks again guys

Have you looked at the Cubo kick?

They can play up quite high.

What tops are you using that only go down to 300/400hz?
