I've just acquired an elderly Martin Wizard Extreme at a very good price and in a very good condition, nice bright active light but the pastel colours do not impress me in the least - I'd really like some striking blues, greens, yellows etc, the sort of colours which are everyday in modern LED fittings
Is there anyone out there that knows the feasibility of replacing the colour wheel, or maybe just the colours on the wheel, I've not poked about inside the unit so I have no idea off what I mighty be letting myself in for. But I do welcome advice |

I'm pretty sure they're just pieces of dichro glass on a wheel Barrie. It's just a case of finding some pieces of solid colour dichro glass... Amazon? eBay?

is the lamp pretty fresh? they do lose their white edge with age.
Id suggest opening it up and polishing all the glass filters/gobo's first, who knows when it last got decent service. Plenty of compressed air to get the worst out then some fiber free clothes to polish. |

what he says. The MSD250 dies a slow and painful death. When they're new and made by Philips they're decent, and the degradation is so slow that you rarely notice day in day out. Give the optics a good clean, a new lamp and away you go. I've always thought them pretty vivid colours TBH.

Just looked at this YouTube vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLtBilewvcU and the colours look the same as I'm getting.
Yep, they're bright but the blue and the yellow look washed out to me, and there isn't a green or a red to be seen. BUT!! I did only pay £164 for it including p&p Edited by BJtheDJ - 23 May 2017 at 10:07pm |

Has the bulb been aligned properly in the holder ????. See below:--
Adjusting the lamp The Wizard Extreme lamp assembly is adjusted at the factory. Due to differences between lamps, however, fine adjustment may improve performance. 1. Disconnect the fixture from AC power. 2. If you are: Using a controller, turn on the Wizard Extreme and select white light with the open gobo. Not using a controller, flip DIP-switch pins 3 and 10 on. Flip all other pins off. Apply power to the Wizard Extreme. After it has reset, the fixture produces a white light with an open gobo for adjustment purposes. 3. Wait for the lamp to reach full brightness. 4. To reduce the number of images, deflect the light stream away before it strikes the mirror drum by holding a small hand-held mirror in front of the it. Lamp adjustment is also easier if you reflect onto a white surface 5. Make adjustments using the three lamp-adjustments screws: If there are off-center hot spots in the images then the lamp is not centered in the reflector. Pull the hot spots into the center of the image fields with small adjustments of the lamp-adjustment thumbscrews. If the light is brighter in the center of the images than it is at the edge, then the lamp is too far forward in the reflector. Pull the lamp Basic service 31 in by turning all three screws clockwise 1/4-turn at a time until the light is evenly distributed. If the light is brighter around the edge of the images than it is in the center, or if light output is low, then the lamp is too far back in the reflector. Push the lamp out by turning the screws counterclockwise 1/4-turn at a time until the light is bright and evenly distributed. Edited by simonp1100 - 24 May 2017 at 7:58pm |

Jamie Sherlock might be worth a call, he is a moving light tech that does repairs and often has a good stock of parts etc. I don't have a number but you can get hold of him through his eBay shop

Thanx for that Simon. Downloading and printing out the PDF manual was one of the first things that I did.
Main thing i sthat, for me, the colours are 'not in-yer-face' enough; but I haven't taken it out on a gig as yet so they may look much better then. The colours remind me of when I bought some Equinox Power Flowers a couple of years back, I was hoping that they'd be a good replacement for my MAD PowerFlowers which have done sterling service over the years but are very heavy - the colours were disappointing, didn't stop me using them until one failed completely and the other started to disassemble itself. I'm sure that I'll get used to it; either that or spring for some Rush Wizards Edited by BJtheDJ - 24 May 2017 at 9:23pm |

Yep, I've seen Jamie's ads on eBay many times over the last few years; if he were closer (he's in Essex I'm in Bristol) then he'd deffo be worth popping in to chat to. Will possibly contact him with regards to getting a custom colour wheel made up, it sounds as though he'd be the one to talk to about that. Edited by BJtheDJ - 24 May 2017 at 9:27pm |
