First of all you need to learn the science behind line arrays.
Your choice of hf horns clearly speaks that you have no idea what you are into.

Hi how it goes
You are right I am not a specialist in line arrays, the audio is my hobby but I have read several papers that talk about the beginning of the line array, about 80% of the horizontal space of the box should represent the transducers and also required 4 boxes per side for the physical principle of the line array begins to take effect, which requires a plane wave generator for high frequencies, which is also simpler to make the case for placing the two midbass very together in an asymmetric shape. I was DJ in the 80s and manufactures horns at that time and resume my hobby about 9 years ago and I've made about 40 boxes at that time, several models of speakers for subs and full range. The biggest problem is that here in Venezuela not get the plane wave generators and would be very expensive to achieve. These boxes are for my hobby and would use occasionally for familiy and holidays partys or listen music in my house or for put audio for a small band, I will accompany these boxes with 4 Turbosound subs and a ALTO MAXIDRIVE 3.4 to adjust and equalize the system. I just hope to try to get the best sound of these boxes with few supplies and resources we have here in Venezuela. So I would like to know that the horns of the two models will do best considering for not having the plane wave generator They are also available for using these two models of horns: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=292-2578 http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=270-304 Thanks I will appreciate it your help

You obviously dont get it at all.
You need a horn with 90 to 100 degrees horizontal dispersion an 7 to 15 degrees vertical dispersion. I already give you an idea how to make them by your self. |

st of all you have to know what you are doing. here are some more pictures of the boxes i did. they are with 12 inch mid/low. for 8 inch drivers you have to make your own dimensions. just keep the horn at 10-15degree vertically. That will determine your horn length.

I don't know if you actually know anything about wave guides at all, but that isn't how a waveguide was supposed to work. In your drawing there is absolutely no function to the fins.
The fins are supposed to time allign all the waves running through each individual channel creating a uniform wave front. like this: ![]() Or something which is easier but which math says works as well (the main flare being a parabole) ![]() ![]() Edited by Teunos - 09 January 2011 at 4:39pm |

Teunos, dont add oil to the fire :-)
That turbosound waveguide is very hard to diy. So any wg is better than none. All that wg thing is very good in theory but difference is not that big in reality.
