Hey chaps, I thought I'd ask here as I'm sure you guys will know the answer.

I used to have some plastic cabinet 15" full range PA speakers and although not the greatest bass response they were adequate for my needs as PA speakers and for music playback at gigs, I sold them several years ago but recently bought some other plastic cabinet speakers loaded eith delta 15A 400W drivers and a compression horn of some type.

The weird thing is that they produce absolutely bugger all bass, would you suppose this is a driver problem or a passive crossover issue? I can't see why they would be so much less bassey than my old cabs!

Thanks guys

Tim

it could be down to alot of things, but im pretty sure the delta 15A is a mid driver, so wouldnt produce much in the way of bass, it could also be down to box tuning...

The 15A is a mid bass driver so should be ok for what it's being used for is it original to the cabs it's in?
what you could do is to connect a lead direct to the driver (only the 15 and disconnect the passive crossover first) and try it with a full range signal in the cab to see if it makes a difference, it could be a problem with the crossover.

Check polarity on the mid/bass drivers

I think you just expect too much from these drivers :)

If it sounds like a gorilla is trying to escape, turn it down.

Tbh I didn't expect too much as they were cheap as hell especially compared to my old ones but I thought it was worth asking here before I wasted money on new ones!

Thanks for the advice, I don't believe they are the correct drivers for the cabinet but I will check the crossover and polarity and of that gets me nowhere I'll either flog them or get some small bins!

Thanks

Tim

If one of the drivers is out of phase (reversed polarity) it will tend to cancel the bass out from the other,so check that first.

I have even seen 2x15 cabinets with the drivers out of phase in the same cabinet, and they wondered why they didnt produce any bass. LOL
Be seeing you.

Thanks chaps, looks like the wiring is all over the shop, tweeters and MIDs all mixed up and different!

Will rewire them this weekend once I figure out which way round they should be wired!
