Got a couple of WSX copies I got given and been offered some Omega Pro 18' drivers which I intend to drop in. Just want to see if anyone has done this before and if these are going to shred themselves being in a horn. Only going to be putting around 350-400 watt a box into them from an old QSC MX1500a as this is going to be used suicide rig style with a couple of Double 15 + horn boxes I got for $100 powered off another MX1500a.

Not that it's going to help much but I did have 8 omega 15's in some HD's, normally powered by a pair of C Audio XR3801's running 45-150hz and did hundreds of gigs with them, normally with things pushed quite hard and never had a single failure. I'm fully aware that the WSX is harder on drivers than a HD but I found them very resilient drivers.

The Eminence 18's aren't known to be reliable in horns...

Why put a low grade driver (cheap coil, weak spider)in a super cab design?  Think B and C or PD.  You need 4 to 8 WSX on each side of stage to get full bass.  VECTORSONICS

I suspect what you'd get is a confetti cannon.  Without even considering the motor, I can't see the cone on an Eminence 18" being strong enough.

Im putting in cheap drivers because they are FREE & the WSX's were FREE & the amps Im using were FREE so I can use this for when there are risks of loosing the sound system, like directly outside parliament. So far everything has cost less than $150 AUD (about 70 english pounds) inc processing & cables.

Even with only 350-400 watts per driver? not like im going to be putting 2k into each box.

Only reason Im asking is whilst Im getting the drivers for nothing if they are going to die straight away its a waste when I could just build a couple of reflex 18 boxes and use them in those instead.

the WSX has a letterbox design right next to the driver.. fane XB ( with mod to the box) get ripped to shreds in them..

you want B&C L18 P300s ideally or the TBX ones

I think what brokenjoe meant was RCF L18P300 (wsx) or B&C  18TBX100 (wsxa)

ClapClap

As Dub said, I too have abused Eminence in all the wrong boxes over the years and often had suprisingly good and long lived results with them. I had a 600w emi driver in a small bass horn for a few years partied hard running on an amp bridged to give 1100w often running on the limiter of the amp and it never missed a beat.

Cheap under performers for free are still cheap under performers. I have sold hundreds of Eminence woofers over the years. You can not make a cheaper voice coil then what Eminence uses. I have customers that are still using Eminence woofers I sold 20 years ago. I have other customers that kill Eminence in 10 mins. It depends on how much  power and how hard the drummer is kicking.  B and C 18TBX100 has a coil that is twice as heavy former and a lot more copper(wound in and out).  When you ask for advice you should not get mad when some one with 25 years working full time in sound gives you advice. I can recone your Eminence 18s for $75.00 each. Keep Rocking.
