A student collapsed at a freshers’ party and died after complaining the loud bass music was ‘getting to his heart’, an inquest heard yesterday.

Cue Daily Mail reader's call to ban any kind of bass: Double bass, Fretless bass, Sea bass, Army Base, Base jumping, Bass in yer face - All gone....

I read this on the train to work - proper bullsh!t. If people died from bass we would have all known about it by now and the bodycount at your scoop shoot-outs would be pretty high too

I read it a week or 2 ago & they were saying many student x-mas parties were cancelled because of this incident!

It's perfectly possible that loud bass triggered a problem already dormant in the poor guy's heart. It's not the facts that are bullshit, it's the presentation - media have to sell papers.
A few years back someone in my halls at uni returned from a half hour jog and collapsed on the floor and died.
Needless to say the headlines weren't "STUDENT KILLED BY OVEREXPOSURE TO EXERCISE".

absolutely, Its does say it could have been something genetic. Poor dude. I think this is a very rare incident, but the problem is many people are going to take it the wrong way, and there may be many unecessary limitations on future events. Or at least i hope it wont. If it was genuinely due to bass overload, it would have had to have been well over 150-160 dB which i doubt it was. |

My lung collapsed at a drum n bass night back in 2005, but that was due to genetic predisposition. Docs said the bass probably did shake it loose though! I was nervous at work for a few weeks after but t'other one hasn't gone yet, touch wood :)
