No, but in all seriousness there are no basic starting positions. It all depends on what mics you're using, how loud the sourse vocal or intrument is or what speakers you're using, what room you're in.....

Agreed OllieMan, too many variables to give such broad stroke advise. My advise would be to find an engineer in your area and try to learn from them, shouldn't take too long to learn the basics.

For a start, I´d turn down the all the gains and faders and put the eq´s at their midpoint. From there, I think you´re on your own! Big smile

Trying to put a simple starting point...

 
Your mic channel gain at 25db. Or halfway up.
 
EQ flat, but take a little bass off.
 
Start with your master and channel faders at 0, bring the master up half way then the channel fader up slowly.
 
Once the channel fader is at 0, use the master fader to go up to the desired level!
