Subject: very efficient bass bin

i'm looking for a plan or willing to learn how to design a very efficient bass bin:

dimensions: about 1000(height)x400(width)x600(dept)

should be playing 50-250hz at very high efficiency. Max 200w or something powered by heavy batteries.

it should be able to cover up to about 50-100 people outdoor at least.

( then looking to match some 2 way tops with it. also very high efficiency with an 8 or 10" playing from 250 till 5khz. 7 if it's possible. )

anyone has a plan for something what i could be looking for? otherwise i've got a lot of reading up a head :)

thanksy.

quad 10" tuned to 60hz?

or a cerwin vega sl36 style horn, pd188 loaded - or similar.  go for a low excursion, higher fs driver where higher sensitivity usually is gained.  3" voice coil 18" woofers are your friend.

REFLEX ALL THE WAY.... (however, im playing with horns again...) That ok Mister Valiant? :)

Sounds like you want a TSE 118.....

is it possible to design something like the F1 215 cab with 105 dB or is that too difficult?

Could fit a 2 x 15" BPH into those dimentions, its not going to go mega low but can be quite high output,  i would go for BPH,  with a FLH your not going to get low enough with that size cab.

Like rich gale says look for low xmax drivers, 15s that would normally be used for mid / full range cabs like the kappa 15 will work well in this application.

A double 15 BR cap would fit those dimension. That be my choice. And as said by others, go for high Fs, High sensitivity drivers. Min 100 dB/w/m should be minimum.

what would be the best way to kind of throw the bass further? So that you still feel and hear enough bass from a small distance (10-20m or something).

Play louder.

no i mean is there a way to let the people on a little distance hear and feel enough without blasting the people up front

I think I would build a HD215 which is very similar to an F1 215 but you would have to go either slightly wider or taller on your dimensions depending on how you configure the cab, and as said above I would use eminence kappas in it so as to have a 'light' easy to drive speaker and you could even use the 4R version to maximise amp efficiency. You're never going to get sub-bass with this cab on it's own but it will be plenty loud enough and throw stupidly far (definately more than 10-20m).

Not without having more bins.

@njw: yeah i have been looking at the hd15 as well. It has a good efficiency.

I'm not really interested in sub because it would take too much energy anyways

You can build super scoop and load it with an 18inch 18 sound lw1400 @240 hz i have 2 and they crack the atmosphere between 20meters from the bins, got 2 crown xls 802 driving 1600 watts constant @ 8 ohms mono per driver.

@BMJ err, i'm afraid that would be a bit too much, no?

how much power should I give the HD15? I think it is safe to say that I can manage to use a really big battery at least 50ah or something..

What about a 1850 bin? Has 105 efficiency and drops lower then the HD.. A little bit wider but not that much of a difference from a HD215..

Martinssons 15" tapped horn....very efficient and compact box. plus dosnt need a Watt heavy driver to get the output so not drawing loads os power out of the battery....

Make a copy of a JBL 4530, loaded with a 15" JBL 2226H or modify it to accept an 18" JBL 2242H. That style of scoop is very efficient. Probably 6db over a bass reflex. This is a kick bin, meaning there's nothing under 40Hz and it is optimized for 50-120Hz. The kick is impactfull and will hit you in the chest.

You want a double 15" bass reflex. With a decent efficient driver it will be 104db 1w/1m

We just designed and built two with your exact dimensions! Not ready to release them on the world quite yet.

Why the wasted space below the horn mouth?
