You should use vinyl instead of youtube to test them to the fullest.

But please make a video if you are going to test the 12 pieces of 21" scoops in one stack. Smile

Mentioned that as scoop test tune on another thread somewhere, was plain ignored. LOL

Play that tune through your set, and if there is a weak link somewhere, it will be exposed by missing notes/distortion.LOL

Many Reggae sounds have to stop track half way through, due to system clearly being unable to reproduce it.

The song is dangerous!!!

It is capable of destroying any sound system, i don't think i have heard another song from them days that can match the bassline on that song.

I must say i am tired of hearing it at soundchecks though LOL

I feel I need to say this when I saw lev putting that Tubby / Pablo tune.

Before I discovered the combination of Tubby and Pablo I did not really listen to music that much. Before I discovered them, I had heard barely heard about Bob Marley and had this stereotype of reggae being all jolly funny stuff that is listened when hanging out on caribian beaches. Then I hear Pablo's wailing, beautiful melodies and the way musicians played their instruments and the way Tubby produced and made all these incredible sounds... It was something completely different to anything else. The darkness and melancholy was something I felt I could at some level relate, living here in Finland in the middle of all the ice, frost and infinite darkness. I wondered how can this amount and type of sorrow and darkness be from caribian sea and then I started learning about them slavery days and the current state of Jamaica and other places. This happened when I was 11 or 12...

Angelic Symphony Dub has been one of my sound check standards for past year or two Thumbs Up

There are few DMZ / Deep Medi tunes that I seldom play, ones that come right up are Alicia and Anti War Dub (unsurprising)

Pretty much everything by Rhytm & Sound

Ceebrolistics - Ö ep, This EP I use for example checking how tight the upper bass is

Puscifer - Momma Sed, this one is mainly for checking out if there is any excess peaks in higher mids but it has some bass interest too. Everything should work.

Desto - Gremlinz, this youtube version does not make justice.

Desto - Cold VIP, the same

I forgot many, many important sound check tunes but these are what I tend to use for bass end. There is loads of Hiphop I did not mention, having said that, Dead Prez - Hiphop comes to mind. Smile

Prophecy was re-issued so it shouldn't be hard to get anymore. Its been a notorious track for years - only weakhearts dont know this tune Lev.

There's a couple of Yabby U tunes that are nearly as heavy. There's a tune by Alpha & Omega from a couple do decades ago. It's digi bass but man it heavy! Anyone know this one? It's a bit of a landmark if you as me.nbritish band too.

S

Re hip hop tracks. I'd like to hear some long 808 kicks with the attack off over scoops -

Edit for 808

Also to note, testing scoop with tunes is not just about rattling floorboards and walls.

Also about rise and fall, and using tracks that cycle through complete sub range.

(coz scoop ain't just about roots y'know)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT7fWHowYsk
(coz it ain't just about roots II)

Some tunes will just go low, others will move cones and some will give really good harmonic progression. It may not not be the heaviest but look at tunes with a b-line walks up and down and then drops low - this will highlight the notorious one-note effect of some subs. That's what I think anyway and some soul tunes can test scoops.

Why the '?' Luton?
The question was what's your favourite tune for testing, and I believe in testing you should be to be able to hear a nice full round bass line, not just super heavy low notes. And as we would want the system to sound the best with the kind of stuff we play, then foggy road ticks all the boxes and fits our style.
So testing the system/scoops to get the best sound that suits us, not just as low as possible. Plus when yer hear the tune on vinyl on a system you can hear  Hammond organ bass notes that you don't on the clip above.

I suppose it is subjective on what you want your system to achieve, as to what 'tune' you would consider a scoop test tune and subsequently use.

never said scoop testin is about low low notes, if playin ur scoops 30 - 90 etc then need various tunes where some emphasis on lows, some tunes is higher, and some ideal that go through the cycle nice.
but as u mentioned low lows ill give you one anyway Tongue iration steppas - jah is my protector.

Rain is Gone by DubFx and Flower Fairy:

The breakdown around 3:57 is the bomb.  Sounds killer on my 2x 15" scoop stack.  Gives the top boxes a lot to work with too.

Pharaoh Sanders. I'm not sure that tune can get a scoop moving!

Inner vibes - mix up blender
If your scoop can play that without any worries then your ready

Or tenor fly - roughneck fashion because the b line on that tune is a type of b line that only certain boxes can draw heavy usually when i hear sounds play that the b line is missing.

Not my sound by boxes play the tune with ease
