Yeah, I must admit I would love to own nuff scoops, with mids and tops to match, well I do plan on building another section for my set still. I found this pic on the net and thought it was a nice example, anyone know which sound this is?

Jah Army, Ishens Rockers, I-Livity, Perch from ZT

I have read about the scoop lovers and the scoop haters on this site but I must admit that a scoop is probably the best looking subs out there. I especially loved the double scoop cabinets. Its funny how some setups look really professional and how others look......well I will be nice here and just say they don't match.

Nah Mike, they're Jah Tubbys.  He hate's the colour too.

As they're made out of ply, me personally, would have wiped them down before bringing them out to the public in that dusty state.

i dont like the light colour surround on the new turbomax either, having different colours on the driver like that reminds me of cheap car audio subwoofers.
still its all about the performance rather than the colour.

no mate i havent, have you?
Roy at recones.com sent me the price's of both turbomax models the other day as my friend was considering them for his HOG scoops, to be honest i thought that they might be a little cheaper.

Posted By: Tekasis
Date Posted: 18 March 2007 at 3:28pm

Yeah, I heard them twice on two different roots reggae sound systems, & both times they sounded heavy. even when they are mixed with PD's in the same stack the whole stack still sounds good.

Have been reading about how deep the Turbomax's are ? So your mate can check if they'll fit in the hog's without the raer of the driver touching the top of the cab ?

I agree the prices are bit high.

Hope you or your mate keeps us posted with results of the Hog's.

he's decided to use PD186, he's forum member pooju.
i'm sure some pics will be available as i have offered to lend him a hand and some lock up space to complete the build.
i use fane xb's in my scoops & mykey has talked about sending me his new 18 so we could do some good comparisons between drivers and both the hog & my regular scoop.

edit: i use T18's too so all drivers can be compared in that enclosure as well

Yeah Static, for now. A mate of mine wants the top two to use for house parties. They were just knocked up by a geezer I know years ago.
So I'll sell them on & buy another proper mini-scoop.

The bottom one built by the bulder up North 'Mr Ultimate' is the real scoop out of them three, the top two ain't, there basically just a plain box, but they still play good & drop heavy.

I was there and it was very funny. it was dave collins himself who lost his footing along with two crew. My hand must have slipped on the slider.
And for those young forumites . Dave Collins was MM mixers and amps. PACE. C AUDIO. MONITEC. and AUSTIN ARMSTRONG. Which by the way was named after two women who worked for him. Dave now lives in that great equipment factory in the sky.

There was always something dark about Dave. I spent a lot of time with him, but never knew anything about his personel life. Which is strange because we did mix socially. (curry wise). He was supposed to be on my stand at Frankfurt. Never showed and then I got a call from my office. It was a shock and a great shame. Dave was one of the early pioneers.

I wonder how huge the Jah Tubbys custom built 24 inch scoops are? Has anyone ever got Jah Tubbys to make them the 24 inch scoop?

If so, I want pics of the finished product! I might ask Jah Tubbys if they got any finished pics of one.

24 inch scoops I imagine would be literally wardrobe size and install only, lol.
But then would probably shift as much air as a storm wind.

I havent had them all out yet, 2 are Gauss and the other 2 look the same from the front so I dont know what matey was on about.

I still havent got round to putting speakons in them all yet but the one I have done shocked me at the amount of sound that came out with only a  400watt driver, especially as they are pretty old

Are Gauss actually meant to be any good compared to todays pd drivers?

Gauss remind me of ATC, same kind of heatsink the ATC pa drivers I've seen.

I remember having a  working ATC PA75-314, 12 inch with rubber surround being rated 75 w rms, but took about 300w.And if you didn't know the wattage, the reflex cab it was in, it sounded like a 600w would.
And had a die-cast frame.

That had a huge black metal finned heatsink at the back like Gauss does.

And so does the Fane Collossus drivers.

Thes speakers were pure magic to look at in their day, and all the major players were useing them. Cetec the company that manufactured them were a tape duplicating machine manufacturer with their machines installed in Decca and E.M.I. and various places around the world. I never understood why they made the speakers in the first place, because this was a tiny part of their organisation. I was at their factory in 1978, and was amazed to see how small the speaker operation was. I don't believe their heart was in it , which is why the range didn't expand beyond a few models and now doesn't exist. Not sure whether MARK 4 manufactured anything when they took over The 5840 was the favorite model. mainly used in 4560 cabs and similar.

And what is a hotch potch system?  My rig is made of Hd215's and x-1's with Ohm mid/tops?!??!?

About time I stepped in again.
These cabs were 4530's without the original plinth on the bottom. We made a lot of cabs for jbl (harman) in the early days. As we were making them for harman, it's difficult to know whether we were making copies or were they the real thing. These cabs date back to between 1978-1980. It was after this that I decided to go the 18" route. I can't believe the badges have survived,
they usually get nicked.

I can assure you that we treat anybody who uses our equipment with the utmost respect., and we never give anyone a reason to bad mouth us . it's not good for business. There are people out there who collect our badges. strange but true. The cabs are genuine, if a little antique.

Props to tek for pics of Iration and Aba-shanti I's subs. Iration seem to have moved to some new ones and while still loud by anyone's standards, seem to lack the oomph of previous incarnations. The first time I went to subdub I couldnt inhale, last time I went I didnt even bother with my lug plugs.

Does anyone know what he's switched to?

And while I'm here, would Turbomax SB1200s fit in http://www.speakerplans.com/index.php?id=18superscooper - these?

PS, seeker that looks like a WMD! Maybe that's what they found in Iraq...

You Think ??? Nothing test the TurboMax 1200 at the moment Jethrocker.
Some may come close, very close, but that's as far as it goes.
When / If Roger lets loose his new v18 then there maybe a different story.
