Hi all,

I've been a visitor to this forum for many years and have built a few 18" subwoofer cabinets, based on the information i've got from reading various forum posts. I'll start by saying thanks very much for that.

I'm in the process of building four G-Sub cabinets, ready for an outdoor live event in May. I'm a sound engineer and we currently use 6x Celestion 1022 speakers, 2x Dual 18" cabinets, and 4x Single 18" cabinets, all powered with 2x Lab Gruppen FB10000Q amps.

If I can build four G-Subs in time, i'll have a total of six dual 18" front loaded subwoofers to pair up with the Celestions.

The only question I have is should I buy RCF L18P300 or 18LW2400 drivers? The 18Sound drivers are easier and cheaper to obtain but I'll go whatever driver would be best in a G-Sub in the 40Hz - 120Hz range. The 18Sound driver does have a higher AES rating than the RCF and I have 6x 2485W @ 4 Ohms from the amps.

Also, the port depth for the G-sub for the RCF driver is 118mm but would the 18Sound be similar or close to the standard 193mm?

I'm staying away from the PD186 drivers as I currently use them in other cabs and i'm after something different. This live event has the most diverse range of music between bands. Everything from steel drums, spoken word, rock bands, dubstep beatboxers, and bass heavy DJ sets will feature at this music event.

I've designed the cabs to hopefully withstand a fair amount of abuse whilst being transported in the van. Just stuck on what driver to use and just don't want to regret my decision afterwards.

Rcf driver is one of the best sounding reflex drivers IMHO

take the time to simulate both in winisd, then you can see for yourself….

Both drivers are very good in reflex cabinets and I suspect will be happy with similar tuning frequencies (I'd aim for around the 40Hz mark). I've used the 18Sound predecessor (18LW1400) for many years and been very happy indeed. Clean, accurate, ideal for live music.

Have first hand experience with the 18lw 2400 and its a superb driver for reflex. go with it , you would be very happy.
