If the positive from the amp goes to the positive of one driver and then the negative is connected to the positive of the other driver and then the negative goes back to the amp this is a series. You need to know which one as it's fundamental to calculating ohmage when using multiple drivers.

Hope that helps.

Cheers i didnt know that, that is where i was confusing people, i got parallel confused with series

Why is this in the 'advanced' section?

The best and easiest solution would be 4 matching drivers, eg; 8 ohms. Funds permitting of course. But then again, it probably won't be long before the 8 ohm drivers get too much power and blow anyway if they're matched with the 16 ohm drivers, costing you more in the long run!

yeah i assumed the drivers i was getting would be exactly the same as the ones i already had as they were the same driver but apparently not.  ill just run one top at 4 ohms and one at 8

thanks for your help guys

The reason I ask is; dont they have crossovers in? Changing the impedance of the drivers will change the response of the crossovers and screw the cabinet characteristics.

nope no crossovers, its biamped- the big horn and the bullets run off one input with the bullets on a 7khz filter and the 2x 12" drivers run off a seperate input

OK but surely they should be the same if you're running them together unless you can address the response difference in an LMS

i have no idea - that was the purpose of this thread.

a driver needed replacing in each top, and the new ones i got were exactly the same but the 8 ohm version whereas the drivers i already had were the 16 ohm version. was trying to find out if i could run one of each in each top or not, but is probably better to run one top at 4 ohms and one at 8 so far as ive been advised

Personally I would just send the drivers back and get the right ones.
