hi,
just a little general survey here; what do peeps here think are the 'best sounding' compression drivers ? ie the most distortion free, 'high fidelity' ones about ? i have a preference for 1 inch drivers, however am also curious about 2" and others too. ta :) Edited by nineleaves - 08 September 2007 at 10:26pm |

I've never liked 2" compression drivers. They just don't sparkle like 1" do. I've yet to hear a 2" compression driver which will change my mind on that.
To repeat what I said in another thread, I think most people here will agree that the B&C DE250 is one of the best (if not THE best) 1" exit compression drivers on the market. The response is very flat and goes up to about 16kHz and they really do sound super smooth. I have a pair of DE250s in some 12" + 1" boxes, crossed over at 1.6kHz and they sound beautiful. Some people recommend crossing them over higher (at about 2kHz) but it's probably down to personal preference, crossover design, horn choice etc. Other people have suggested the Beyma CP380M which has quite a nice looking response and apparently sounds better down towards the 1.6kHz region. I've never heard them (knowingly) so can't really comment. I think they're a similar price to the B&C. |
