No, what you can do is use a bit of the extra available headroom to put more EQ on the bottom end but you really are battling the natural roll-off (24db/oct). You will also find that as the stack gets bigger it gets proportionally more directional at lower frequencies, this can make it sound heavier. dont forget that on a reflex loaded box, the driver becomes unloaded quite quickly below the tuning frequency - so boosting frequencies below the F3 point will quickly result in pole-plating and a burnt / squashed coil.

Chris, properly designed motor systems do not exhibit such unruly behaviour as they run out of motive power before Xlim. I agree thought that boosting much below Fb is a bit futile. Go for a B6 loading if the driver is suitable. Tony Edited by Tony Wilkes - 16 February 2012 at 7:54pm |

LS1 soundsytem from London
One of the systems from a recent London event, looks like PD loaded reflex doubles. Keith |

So the final answer is NO :). So a reflex to play 35hz must be tuned at 35hz. end. |

Not quite that simple, Depending upon the "Q" of the box and port you will get a bit of action below Fb I always assume about 5-10hz and hi-pass accordingly.
On my 15" single reflex boxes tuned to 42hz I used to hi-pass at 35hz and add a PEQ at around 38 to bring up the bottom end to suit. Tony |

When I got there, the sub wasn't dropping that low... And a venue that size, 8x 18s should have been wobbling eyes, flapping trousers, and plenty dust from the ceiling. However the mid tops.. Wow... They were a specimen of excellence... Got to try and get MTs to sound like that. |

I was listening to LS1 outside during the royal festivities last year "Kate & William" pre wedding celebrations, they had x4 doubles on the street. I said to the owner, they are very LOUD & forceful, but play some roots dub & let me hear them drop low, I was there for about 2 hours, then the police came & told them to turn it down abit, so I didn't get to hear the cabs drop low I've spoken to the owner a few times after that, when he gets a chance he wants to hear how low our set "Goverment" plays to compare, he also told me, he's got a couple of those doubles for sale............. I've been trying to do a design for a 30Hz reflex box using 2x PD2450 but I'm having problems trying to get the port wide enough and actually fit the driver in the box without making the air velocity go up too much. Also I'm trying to make sure all the ports don't go over onto an extra sheet.
Will be seriously big heavy boxes if they ever get built!! edit: 2150 not 24!
