Quick question

I need to get a van to kick off my soundsystem build. Any good suggestions for a 2nd hand van £3-5k suitable for a typical 4 scoop soundsystem?

ldv convoy, ex post office one will be nicely boarded up at the back with a proper floor too.
£2k will get you a  low miles good condition one. London LEZ compliant too.

My back thanked me when I got my mk6 transit Luton back with a tail lift.
Get a heavy duty sack truck for your speakers, and wheels on all cases and racks, and loading and unloading becomes way easier with the tail lift. one person can manage alone in an emergency with this arrangement. You do loose a bit of weight capacity having the tail lift though but mine is still good for 1200kg in the back. You can get one within your budget too.

Why not hire a sprinter when you need it for a gig, and put all the money saved into more sound equipment?

i noticed quite a few lwb mk7 transits with single door size tail lift, this might be an option as they take 250kg i think

New shape Citroen Relay is now the best van on the market for moving gear about--great payload, very reliable, widest load area, square load area as it does not taper at waist height like Transits and Sprinters and low loading height.
They have been around for a few years now so can be picked up for less that £4k and I have yet to see one with even a rust spot on it

I would never own another Sprinter.
Terrible in every way and if you get the long one no payload.

Lutons of any description are a PITA as once a taillift is fitted you can be down to 780Kg payload, which is useless.

Transit with aloading ramp would be the best bet IMHO..

We've had both Sprinters and Transits at work, the Transits were more reliable, cheaper to fix if they did happen to go wrong, better built, were nicer to drive IMO and quicker. As a result we now only use Transits. I would rather look like a pikey than waste my money on a Sprinter!

Damm right, as a Sprinter owner I can say they are without doubt the worst engineered vans on the road, the bigger the engine, the worst they are (the 160BHP eats gearboxes, the 180BHP eats flywheels), the doors don't fit, the booming space above your head that is a neat cuppy-hole in teh transit and the lack of cup-holders all cement the thing as a crapper...

Don't even mention ball joints and "Start Error" codes...

oh and locks that are faster to enter with a screw driver than the key...
