Too long?? Most routers have a bed that goes up and down to allow you to set a cutting depth, explain what jig you have and what you are trying to do and I may be able to help...

Right I have a 12mm jig/ template and want the depth of the channel to be 5mm the cutting edge only has to be 7mm then the bearing above this blade will have to sit against the jig edge.... hard to explain
I'll see if i can throw a little diagram together ![]() Edited by lukelucas93 - 13 June 2012 at 9:28pm |

I see, what i would do is fix a bit of 18mm(or whatever you need to loose the extra depth) under your template so you can get a tidy 5mm cutter protrusion, if you have 12mm template you have some adjustment there as the bearing is usually about 5mm so a 35mm cutter would work for you...

the smallest cutters i have like this are 20mm in length.... as allready said can you not raise the template up by using some batton..... normally i use a collet on my routers instead of bearing cutters.....

when i rebate cabs i use an 18mm straight cutting bit then use a 30mm guide bush to to keep the cutter centered in the 30mm channel on the template.
I find using bearings on templates over and over the messes up the template.
I always do a dry fit on a piece of scrap mdf just to make sure the template is true. You'll probably need a new jig tho if you have an 18mm profile on your jig like the diagram below |

Ive been making jigs tonight.
Used a 10mm bit with a 30mm guide bush but have been making jigs for handles and connector plates and top hats. I would agree with johnatron for rebaiting. using bits with bearings I've found fatigue your jugs rather quickly.
