@Johnny - I think you should have a go building some cabs as it'll be an interesting and useful learning experience, even if it doesn't work out exactly how you intend it to!  I know you expressed an interest in our VX Mini before, but I think you'll prefer our 2x18" VX subwoofer (also a ported horn hybrid) which will be unveiled later this year...

@SamV - good one, I don't think I would have guessed that in a million years...!

@Bass - yup you guessed it - well doneWink

@Oscar - correct indeed!

Here's another couple of snaps I took of the CF18VJD (1600w AES @ 5" VC)

Rossco,
any experiences with the new celestions you might want to share?
How do they compare to other high power 18"s?

Hi Bass*en*mass, here's a preview of what we used the Celestion CF18VJD for;

Some more details about it here;

http://forum.speakerplans.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=62266&PID=637345&title=show-off-your-custom-subwoofers#637345

But I would say that it's a decent driver and very well made by the look of things (unlike some previous Celestion subwoofer designs).  The dual spider makes it impossible to scrape the coil as they are spaced well apart and hence the depth of the driver.

This woofer has a slightly aggressive sound in this 3.5m horn subwoofer but in a good way, so therefore I'd say that it is a good product.  A comparable RCF woofer in the same cabinet sounds somewhat smoother and cleaner sounding, but without the noticeable raw edginess that the Celestion portrays.

Another way to describe this is to say this subwoofer has a more up-front sound which gives the impression of more low end grunt, beefiness and a richer/fuller bass response.  The sub did appear to work well for the application it had been designed for, so I can see us potentially using these for other projects in the futureWink

A very nice looking driver - apparently it's a new Eighteensound 2000w AES dual coil ferrite woofer...

94db sensitivity and 2.5db power compression at full power so I've heard...is there any more info available yet?
