This is off topic but after 6 years of faithful daily service the cables on my bike lights are starting to show signs of wear. My plain was to replace the cables and grommets. Question is though what can I replace the moulded connectors with? We're talking 6-7.2v. Needs to be waterproof and durable as they'll be coming on and off daily.

I was going to suggest those johnny but they are really not designed to be connected and disconnected daily. The locking mechanism will get stiff and brittle. Likewise the MC4 and MC3 connectors for solar are waterproof and tough but are awkward to disconnect.

The current system on there is inline barrel type and socket with a tight seal. Those do look good, how big are they roughly?

How waterproof?
What about inline speakon/powercon socket/plug with a decent tight gland? |

Dunno about waterproof, but look up Tamiya connectors. Normally used for battery connects for model planes, boats etc. They have a locking lug, keyed against wrong polarity. Got a few here surplus to requirements (male + female sets) .... you could try em if you like .... |

As for how waterproof, I guess enough to cope with a proper downpour. I did check out the Tamiya but I couldn't see any that might be safe to use without additional protection?

The speakon plugs etc might be a bit bulky too.

Those superseal connectors are the correct ones, we use them on the ignition systems on the racer, they are 18 x 10 roughly, so the right sort of size for a bike, they do take a push to get them to engage though as the bellows pushes against the other half and the the flap clicks in.
The other thing that might be useful is that a lot of the mil spec round connectors are waterproof, they have a seal in the bottom. Not often cheap though. |

Sam, they arent much bigger than what you have on those lights, they seem ok for connecting and disconncting as i take my GPS and radio off the boats when not in use .. stops the thieving gits .. but only use the genuine AMP superseals, dnt buy the cheaper ones .. look the same but trust me they arent whats the make of those lights mate?

Don't garden centres sell water proof connectors (for low voltage lights and fish ponds?)
