Hi everyone,
we decided to build a soundsystem for reggae, dub and steppers music. we have got 4 scoops with beyma 18g50 drivers. now we need the mid section and top section. at the end it should be a 3-way system (in the future perhaps a 4 way-system) . we dont know what the better choice is.. to have 15" or 18" mid boxes as kickbins or bassreflex? also i have no clue what are good drivers for the top/high section and what design we should pick. would be very nice if u can give me some tips for the constructionpart. thank you very much in advance for your answers. best regards Ulli |

15" is the prefered kick driver, however some 18" plans are available such as the USB and ES18 designs. Double 15" reflex is a cheaper and easier option, depending on amp power/size of audience of course as horns are more sensitive. But ideally you want to keep vocals out if your kick bins so maybe something like the X15 design on the plans page could do you as an all-in-one option .

in a 3 way system there's no 'kick' box, my suggestion is
4 x 18" scoops bass 4 x 15" mid 2 x very good 1,4" comp driver for the tops

I see what your trying to do mate. It will sound good but I have a question for you... Why do you want it to look and sound like the other sound systems around? Try something different and most sound systems look and sound the same and its boring. Am I wrong? there |

What are the biggest problems/benefits of using a 12" as mid or "kick"?

There was talk in some other thread that some ass and martin 12" were "the punchiest things" or something like that. Arent the "air moving" kick frequencies under 100hz? |

i find it hard to enjoy standing by a stack which has kick bins. Reggae to me should be warm, and i find kick bins just add a hard edge which makes me feel like i'm being punched in the head.
Also, why copy what other people are building?

Is it impossible to get the "kick" from the midtops if using scoops?
Or are the scoops so loud that they need a dedicated kick bin or what would be the problem of getting the kick from a midtop with for example 15" woofer? |
