Hi All!

I'm a lighting newbie, and currently have a real basic lighting rig consisting of Par cans.

I want to add some audience blinders like these:
http://www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_blinder_4lite_bundle.htm

I'm a bit confused as to how these wire up in my system.

I notice that the lamps included are 120v. Does this mean I need a transformer? Are these normally ran off a dimmer channel?

As my current dimmer is running par 64's I'm assuming it is a 240v output per channel (i'm in the Uk)

I've tried looking on the net, but have had trouble finding any info at all.

Ta,

Ollie.

the 120v lamps are run in series pairs to make 240v loads......

But there are better options out there as outlined in above link

What you have found is DWE loaded half Mole, these will trash anything other than a AvoLites FD or better 10A dimmer Channel if you are not careful.
The 120V DWE lamps run series/Parallel to give you a 2.6Kw 240V load. They are great but do draw a lot of juice and are a bit OTT for smaller gigs, a better option ( the LED stuff isn't vaguely there yet for this application) maybe a pair or the 4 lite half moles you found, series wired with 28V Par36 250W ACLs, you end up with a 1Kw 120V lod per 4lite which you can either D-Load against a Par64 120V lamp or series against each other for a 2Kw 240V Load.

If you D-Load you can run a L<>R chase which looks cool but you need 2 dimmer channels or just series for a 2Kw blast.

ACL loaded moles look amazing and in smaller gigs may actually have more punch than the very wide DWE variant.

If you've already got par cans they can be as effective.  We've used racks of par 56 cans with no gels on as blinders in smaller venues- quite effective...

We've got some proper stairville blinders but as Shagnasty says the power requirements limit the use. Par56 cans with a 300w bulb will use a lot less power and can be arranged foursquare as well
