Akabak. But you never get it working right without prototyping.

Akabak or create an electro-acoustical model directly in a SPICE simulator which is basically what Akabak is a front end for.

Ok, let me ask one question.
Why would anyone try to clone this box? 103db from a 2x18 horn loaded box is not impressive at all in my book. Recommended HPF of 38Hz 24db BW means it will be about -3-4db down at 40hz. Again not impressive.

I've been thinking about this topic recently, how can it say -3db @30hz when it isn't ? The v1 certainly wasn't because I owned them. People are saying that the v2 has more output ? But it has the same spec ? I'm defiantly preferring the idea of ' more efficient' cabs at the moment anyway. There are now people saying that the new 21" doesn't drop low in certain instances to. Maybe the internal port doesn't work so well in the 21 ? |

Clearly they are not as horn loaded as some cabinets containing 18s, I have never seen the internals but it could easily be more of a tuned bandpass/horn hybrid. And we all know the struggle there is a design trade off between bandwidth and gain. The last time I stood infront of a pile I thought they have a very impressive attack and phase response. Fantastic transients. It was techno mostly as I recall and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So while you could get more SPL from another cab in the same volume perhaps, you would never get the bandwidth and I very much doubt you get the transients aligned across the bandwidth either. |

They will surely work very good for techno, how about some dub? Or any other type of music with below 40hz content.
I never actually looked closer to this box spec. I had some imagined impression that is louder and goes deeper.

No idea, never heard them. As they are intended to be a general purpose one box solution for live touring acts I doubt it was ever part of the design specification. You want strong 30Hz, you put something else under them.
Edit: As in never heard them in such a situation Edited by odc04r - 01 February 2017 at 6:13pm |

We have been running 4th order butterworth at 30Hz for many, many years. Measured plenty of the cabs in various situations, it definitely hits 30 and has a lot more physicality than many other boxes on those notes too. Marjan you are welcome to come measure and listen to some, we have 22 boxes here... well technically - they're not often in the warehouse. The v1 did 30 but not with authority, and a resonant harmonic peak higher up masked it and has a much more aggressive tone. V2 is actually a touch less loud but sounds infinitely better on all styles of music. It's a very versatile sub, equally at home doing long pressure stuff as it is high speed techno. Sound quality was the major goal on a redesign I think and it hit that easily. Hidden here has three subs for 500 people and it's plenty even with a wooden floor. Channel One played there and were asking me where I had hidden all the scoops and wanted to see my preamp! The XL again most certainly does drop to 30, that driver is a monster. If anybody wants to hear them run properly I've got six in Brixton Jamm this Saturday. Edited by toastyghost - 01 February 2017 at 6:33pm |

Ha well I'll shut my mouth then, never mind that we have a big pile and for a long time on regular work. Feel free to get information from people who are only looking at dubious doodles found on the internet |
