I'm currently helping out at a performance near me, in a theatre I've not have the chance to poke about before.
Having looked around and obviously been drawn to the FOH system, they're using PA kit I've not come across before, EM Acoustics www.emacoustics.co.uk - the FOH system is four of the EMS215 subs plus a pair of the EMS152 units providing mid/top, and more for the balcony - it's not short in the grunt dept.
When I looked through the rest of the EM range, one particular cabinet caught my attention - the i12 - which I thought I'd share because I was so surprised! This cabinet is claimed to drop down to 27Hz, thanks to it's 4x 12" cones - now that's a combination that really surprised me me,..... 27Hz from a comparatively modestly sized cabinet.
I so wish the theatre had bought a pair of the i12's instead of one of their pairs of 215's - I'd love to hear the i12 running.

If you don't want to hear the answer, don't ask the question!

Hi Greg, we stock most of EM's products. They are very popular with theatres!
The i12 will go to 27hz easily. But it really is true sub.. don't expect it to have the speed required to do what a 215 will do. If it's a single sub per side, then the EMS215 is your best bet. The i-12, however, is the perfect ULF extension for a 215! Maybe the theatre didn't have the scope at that time to add an extra amp and processing channels on their install? There is a video on youtube of an i-12 eating a sheet of A4 with a 30hz tone! Best Regards Mike |

heard one in an EM acoustics demo room, but was in some basement bar where they couldnt get any DB out, so didnt really impress me (cant really judge something unless you hear it in its designated manor of use).
Saying that heard bloody impressive things about these cabs, only heard/mixed on the Quakes so far, would like to use more of their stuff at some point. |

Indeed, it did... ![]() Mike, is it possible to reduce EM Quakes throw, by laying them on their side, horn coupled? This works for some other horn loaded cabs, when required in smaller venues. |

What is the video supposed to show? Air moves in and out of the port.

Well it's not exactly supposed to demonstrate anything particularly important, it's just the sheer volume of air that is moved by the sub really.

Given that there are four 12" drive units in the cabinet the amount of air movement is hardly surprising. Even the smallest of speakers can flap a piece of paper about.
