Hi All
I wanted to show the project i have worked on the last few days, even though it is not completely finished. I had a B&C 15TBX100 laying around so I thought i'd build a tapped horn for it as it has shown to be a nice driver for this purpose. I have used the same folding as wood1y used for his RCF tapped horn: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/170749-15-tapped-horn-rcf.html But I have modified it a bit to make it more suitable for the B&C as my simulations showed that it needed a bit higher compression ratio to get a flat response: http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/2177/drawingth15tbx.jpg I am so fortuned that I have access to the finest grade of 18mm BB ply in sheets of 3000x1500 so I was able to build it almost out of a single sheet: http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/6520/cutsheetth15tbx.jpg I cut the big bracing of the bottom piece instead of piece F and then made F of 2 pieces of 12mm which I glued together. Here are some build pics:(Hope I have downsized them enough) I also did a crude 2,83V/1m measurement(I will make a better one when I get a better mic and soundcard). The blue graph is the Tapped horn and the red is a William Cowan Horn loaded with Eminence EPS 10300L. After this i am beginning to trust the specs of the real TH115 i have never heard a 15" make so much sound. We used it for a party and it managed to knock a few bottles and beer cans of our bar and it was never feed with more than 400 watt. Some pics of the measurement: (This cat is a serious bass lover) |

To one side there is our garage and a corner of the house about 30m away and the other side there is a lawn and a bit further away some trees. It might be a bit to reflective.. so maybe the most useful data which can be extracted from the measurement is the comparison between it and the small FLH.

By request here is the hornresp simulation i used. The reason i didn't post it in the first place is because i don't think it is that accurate.

Now with handles, wheels and smooth edges:
Now it only needs a speaker terminal, some paint, a grill and some more testing and fine tuning |
