Had some fun today because Andy kindly sent me an amp to test and play around with it. I don't exactly now what power it has or details like that, other than mainly intended for the tops, not so much for the subs.

Comparison was mainly against LAB PLM10000Q... My not so great favorite anyway :)

On bass duty there wasn't anything new. Matrix stole the show completely with its ability to drive cones properly and keep them under control. Bass sounded much deeper and tighter than with LAB but not as good as some other larger Matrix amps i've heard.

Cabinet used was some reflex proto 218.

But in the mid high test... Stunning. Just stunning. Like night and day. Lab did sound ok, and like many typical modern D-class amps. Breathless, cold, lacked details, clarity and dynamics.

Matrix turned several heads with its warm, clear, well controlled and very dynamic sound. Like my missus said "LAB sounds like there is just few bits of the track and separate items playing, and all the wrong parts. Matrix sounds warm and the song plays like a full tracks with all powerful details."

I also played this amp to general manager and after 2 change overs he asked me to stop and said that left cabinet sounds better and wanted to know what was the difference. He was very surprised to hear that only difference was the amp, and which amps he was listening to :)

Cabinets used were OHM BR-15.

It just proves to me that modern audio industry isn't quality driven, it is money and brand driven.

Nice write up Pasi ..

I'm looking fwd to A/B'ing a matrix amp against my MC2's , i used to use the old STR series to run mid tops .. the class A/B ones .. always sounded very HIFI,  at the time i had QSC's and Crest CA's and id say the CA and STR were about them same on output quality on Mid Tops and the QSC didnt come close , may favourite on bass was the CA, although i didnt have a matrix with the same output as my CA, so it may have just been the headroom that gave the CA the edge
Pyrotechnics... its not rocket science, well.... actually it is !! :o)

Tested enough class D by now, from common as muck to exotic - and have only found one that sounds good to my ears (Nuforce Reference 9).

Always end up back at the AB monoblocks Thumbs Up

we just did an a/b between our old lab fp6400's and the new matrix MF range. Matrix was so nice in depth and warmth. Can't knock the labs but i would have chosen the matrix, and saved money by doing so but not compromised on sound, improved it!

words are ok but lets see some pictures/readings/waveforms

descriptions of trouser flapping or eye vibrating is good for the scoop boys or dnb mess heads but you are supposed to a professional

you must have access to the proper equipment

nice sound bite but i could say exactly the same thing about a berry ep2500

its all subjective without measurements

look at dj leco posts for a reference review
Produce a killer sound. Take no prisoners.

He gave his respected opinion on sound quality. Go stick an oscilloscope on the outputs if you want to know how it functions as an arc-welder!

And you would be lying if you said the ep2500 was hifi Wink

Pics don't tell how it sounds, and all this was about how it sounds. That's the only thing what really counts at the end of the day. If the claim is that Matrix MF or Baby MF in this case sounds better than LAB, only way to find it out is listen.

Someone else can do the geek part, i'm not the guy to do that sort of measurements.
