I got to find a very cheap 18'' replacement for my school.
The have ohm le-18 horn loudspeakers that need new drivers.
Will these work, or rip apart

I now have two G-subs with theese drivers.. I feed them with one TA-2400 1200wrms per box.

But will they survive say a Proline 3000 @ 1500wrms per box?
Or should i stay with the smaller TA-2400 or should i go even bigger as the T.amp D3400 @ 1800wrms per box?

I know the D3400 is not a recomended amp. But lets keep the question simple! How big a amp should i have to get as much as i can out of my budget G-subs without burning them up the first night! Wink

One blow up and your not budget anymore.
Keep the 2400.
It just is.

So iĀ“m almost finished with my Gsubs. Only grill left..

I sold all Tapco stuff and bought a pair of The Box ACHAT 215 instead.

Also got another 2400 instead of the 1400 i used to have for tops.

But the most important thing is that iĀ“m halfway with my second pair of GĀ“s Big smile

Maybe i will try some XBĀ“s this time. Not desided yet..

Hi,

I'm reading this thread with big interest.
I've made a driver-profile in WinISDpro. Only unknown value was the Sd and because it's quite similar to the Fane Colossus 18XB, i've took the Sd of that driver (being 1120 cm^Ā²)

If i want to simulate 1 driver in a reflex loaded box of 160L tuned to 35Hz (with a lowpass 4th order Butterworth at 100hz, highpass 4th order Butterworth at 30Hz and a parametric at 35Hz, Q=2 and with a gain of 6dB)

I'm using two quadrangular ports of 14 by 14 cm, because i want to make it with 4 triangular ports of 14 by 14 + diagonal

Am I doing something wrong or am I just expecting to much from this driver?
Edit: I'm inserting 400W of amplifier power.

400w plus the 6dB of boost = 1600W as far as the excursion is concerned, which is why you've ended up over 10mm.

As noted further up the thread, the calculated Xmax could be considered to be just over 8 mm, so you won't have to reduce your boost much to stay within this (probably to 1000-1200W, at a guess). Or, reduce the box size and increase tuning frequency a bit to bring it under control.

Hope this helps,
David

Hi,

Been a while since I've been here, I do apologise for that Smile
Well I've dropped the 6dB boost and indeed the speaker was fine.

Thanks for the input, it helped.

This is only a hobby for me, so i have no hopes :)

Outing the rig for the first time on saturday. I have not seen the place but they say it can hold 200p. I will be doing it for free this time since it's the first time and i can't give any guaranties that my rig lasts all night :P

But i'm hoping to be able to do "normal" parties and disco's (club it's called today i think? :S) up to 300p? And small Dubstep events up to 100p?

In GƤvle, Sweden
