Been using the Gsubs for a couple of years now and they have been working fine. No problems at all. Been running them mostly on a single t.amp TA-2400 on the edge of clipping, sometimes "lghtly" clippin all night. I notice a big gain in spl without any change ni sound when the clip just starts flickering.

A couple of nights i have been running them with two Altair MF-12 one per box bridged. With thoose amps i needed to set limiters 1-2dB under clip. Otherwise they started sounding distorted. May have been x-max/x-mech issues.

Today it was time for a repaint

Beyma 18G550 and the Thomann drivers

The Thomann drivers are a few mm bigger in diameter

Also put some foam on the grills

On this page are few plans for the 18-500 8a. http://www.lautsprecherforum.eu/viewtopic.php?t=4561

This is a comparison from the site above between 18-500 BR plan (with 2 different port designs) and the JB-sub118 which I decided to build. If I understand correctly. Correct me if Im wrong.

Grau: Normal (Pegel-BR)
Gelb: Eckport (Mittelding)
Blau: JB-Sub118 (Tiefgang)

There is also a few other plans for the driver. Check it out!

One thing I noticed in the specs of these, also the Studiospares (Soundking) is the round wire coil. Tempted to back to back one of these with my XB 600's. There are some mighty cheap 3" coil NEO P Audios about too.
It's everything, not everythink!

I'm sure nothing, just looking for the way they do them so cheap besides China mfr. No wonderful tech like inside/outside winding, edge wound flat wire coil, copper coil etc. No Kevlar impregnated cone.....
I personally would always get a used Brit/Italian driver but I would love to get one of these and compare. My 600w XB's will give up a bit of distortion at 600w with some 40hz boost in reflex and these are dual spider and all the posh bits. Pity Wally didn't say how they compared to the Beymas?

We use 4 of them for 3Years now in superscoop designs, 2of them did easy 500hours soundsystem and live sessions the last years - measured them few times also in reflex design...

...they are kind of nice, but they have a clear limit at +-1000w per driver  - The Xmas is not very good, U can use them better for "fullrange" or reflex design and small live music stuff -  its medium sound & bass (pressure) quality, but with quality amps its getting ugly pretty soon, like one guy wrote here just before clipping it is starting to get decent, thats all u get, I would recommend getting 2pd's or voids for the price of 4 thomann 18er instead, preassure & quality-wise, you would need like 8 thomann to compete against 4 pd's or similar price range just for "bass-quality", still a good bargain...

...The Paper is not varnished - that is a big no-go, but the rest of the driver is kind of solid & like mostly all china-licence stuff from thomann is running for a few years without problems.... getting pretty hot though in a scoop. We gonna varnish them with foam or some heavy paint and then run a few more sessions before an upgrade to new 18inch drivers....
