Got one of these badboys from Tony last week. Initial impressions are that this thing is seriously good a low bass. Took it round to Team Robs for a test last night.
No highpass filters were used for any of this, amps were MC2 heavies.
Used in a reflex box of around 230l with a tuning frequency of around 38Hz it was really good at the sub end of things, but this tuning kinda wasted its potential so it was time to retune it...
After a blanket was stuffed into one side of the shelf port it was sounding much flatter with less of what seems to be referred to '40Hz Madness' on this forum. It was obviously going really low and there were definitely notes there that the normal RCF18LW200Ns had been missing (maybe with the same retuning maybe they'd hit them too but the x-max wouldn't like it at high power). Time for some bass test tunes...
Its been mentioned that theres some seriously low notes in Sk8er Boi so we started off with that... it caught us by surprise! Definitely there and played pretty effortlessly too.
1812 Overture was also a bit more exciting than normal. I'm defo a happy man with these. Can't wait to try at war volume.
In other news we were a bit surprised to find the cab which we pulled out for the test and had been sat in the cellar unloved since it was bought wasn't loaded with the Celestion BX we thought it had in. It had a JBL 2240 in! It worked perfect, Win! We thought we'd test this one too but at the normal tuning. This thing is a seeeeeriously nice sounding driver. Not high power and 5mm xmax, but a very light cone. In all honesty this thing sounded nicer than the BMS at the low power levels we were using, just didn't do the daft low stuff. Theres no question that the JBL had been run in proper though and the BMS hadn't.
Don't test the champignon sound
