Some of you may have recently seen the film "Dead mans shoes" on film four, or indeed before it got on telly. If you haven't and you like good films with a nice bit of brutality/darkness, some comedy and drugs chucked in then it really will hit the spot. It also has an amazing sound track, which really captures the mood of the film (hardly suprising as the film was put out on WARP), there's some great characters in it and it really keeps you locked to the screen. It is DARK though! With sudden bouts of utter carnage, completely un-glamourized though, and in the story line morally justified.
Anyways, after watching that a few days ago and being slightly shocked by the sheer brutality of it, I was watching Crimewatch last night on telly. I've never actually watched it before, which is probably a good thing as its coloured my already very jaded perception of the state of the world we live in even more! I couldn't believe that what I was seeing was actually having more of a "Holly SH*T! Did that just happen?" effect on me than possibly one of the darkest and most violent films I think I've ever seen! :- 60 year olds being attacked and killed in their own homes by shovel weilding yobs... People being stabbed to death with huge kitchen knives in broad daylight while playing with a bunch of young children in the street... Gangs of youths beating people almost to the point of death for no reason at all, and other random racially motivated attacks. And that was just the tip of the iceberg! What the hell is going on when when you can watch a TV program about real life thats much darker than a film which is intended to be very dark indeed??? Guess thats just the reality of todays society, sure it didn't used to be like this, when I was a lad and all.. Edited by Gramps - 02 May 2007 at 1:56pm |

yea the world is a wrong place at the moment. i left derby after one of
my mates was randomly attacked in a park with people around on a
saturday afternoon.
there was no reason for it, no provocation at the time and no past beef as they were complete randoms. probably due to him being a punk and them being chavs... the really sick thing was that there was a gang of 10 or so, my mate had to have titanium plates in his jaw, the doctor reckoned he was a few kicks from brain damage or death and the sickest thing was that the rest of his body didnt really have a mark on it, they had exclusively stamped on his head. it'd got to the point where we carried collapsable nunchucks around so if anyone did start trying to kick the sh*t out of you for no reason you went from looking like a punk/skater kid to be picked on, to a nunchuck weidling mentalist in about half a second. never had to actually hit anyone they were always far too f**ked up by it, plus other than someone with a gun id always fancy my chances of taking them down as the reach on 'chucks is quite long... they colapsed down to fit in a pouch teh same size as a leatherman would be... since moving to sheffield where its far freindlier this hasnt been a requirement or even a consideration to carry any kind of weapon as i am ultimately a pacifist... the way i see it, is that if you let the youth/society to get to apoint where this kinda stuff happens reguarly, you then have a reason to impose a police state. give it two or three years of "terror", rising crime and anti social behaviour ,etc and the people will be crying out for id cards and the like. even americans laugh at the ammount of cctv we have. this is blatantly happening and few seem to notice or care. |

yeah, interesting read, yes society is getting bad and that film is quite shocking.
one point id like to make, is that for the size of our population, violent crimes such as previously described are incredibly rare, even if they shouldnt EVER happen. only if the green party became prime ministers.... flowers for all! |
