Our sound was called Goodvibes Uprising. Ran in the 90's (early, mid). The jumpy decks are the springy ones. Not really to do with choice of stylus. Concorde, to me, sounds harsh. I like the sound of pickering. But what I really want is a high compliance crystal pickup for my 4hf. Shaka once said that these drain less signal from the groove thereby reducing wear on wax's. Very difficult to get. Btw the nicest deck I've heard was a pink triangle, through an audio innovation valve amp and b&w speakers (hifi audition).

Ashtrays with rubber bands has done the job for someone...For some reason the bouncing floor plus suspension was horrible. But adding a third bouncing element cancelled out that bad combination.

Diggin in to the subject of turntable isolation people have used this for example.

I second the bicycle inner tube idea. I have no experience of it with a turntable but under an amp or CD player it has a good effect.

All you need is a piece of board that can accommodate your turntable, one inner tube with a diameter that fully sits under the board but is not bigger then that board, a straw and a bicycle pump.

Slightly inflate the tube - it only needs enough air to open the tube out, the absolute minimum. Place the tube on your existing shelf, then put the straw underneath the tube so it sticks out both in and out the circle, making it look like the letter 'Q'. The reason for the straw is to prevent the sealing of the inner circle air between the two shelves. Place the board on top of the tube and the turntable on that.

Whilst it wobbles a little bit as you handle the turntable that shouldn't be a problem.

Try it. What have you got to lose!

edit. I bet there are hundreds of ways to get the similar effectLOL Someone wrote at some forum that the problem is that the vibrations are not only vertical but also horizontal and everything in between. Maybe thats why the ashtray or the bicycle tire tricks might work. The traditional rock block and piece of foam rubber works too...

That old soundman trick!! Can't beat a solid floor, foam and a whopping great paving slab .this is off subject, but having the heaviest b-line is not the be all. It's the way bass is used that counts. It's the perception of how far the system has to go which gets people going. If the bass gets turned up and people can't even see straight its just heavier. Add a growl, and people start getting excited . Don't forget that music is only one part of a trinity. Being in a slightly altered state and other people experiencing the same thing are the other two. Very difficult to achieve now in a dance due to the smoking ban.

I dare to disagree, smoking substances dont necessarily make the music sound better or "make it work".I know what you mean but theres more to it than being stoned.I can still get very deep into the musical vibe even if I dont smoke anymore.

I think its about lettin go and going with the music.Maybe for some its easier to let go after a few drinks and a spliff but it can be achieved without any intoxicants tooSmile

Its also about concentration. For many its easier to focus on the music after a spliff or two.

But at the end of the day all the wonders of music can be experienced with a clear head too.
To some who are used to smoke every half an hour it can be hard to concentrate to the music without the spliff. The experience can be just as strong and spiritual without weed but some people sadly cant achieve the state without drugs and alcohol.

It's their choice. I suppose I was referring to a shaman like experience where u loose yourself in the music which is difficult when people are constantly asking each other if the want to go out for a cigarette. I haven't seen a meditation vibe in a dance for a while. Those days are gone here.
