Is that for real? Surely it's a joke? LOL

Watched the 'how it works' vid a few times.....eh? WTF?  If it's real,is very clever. No feedback problems there....wondering how the hell the magnetic feild that powers the turntable doesn't interfere with the tiny microvolts the cartridge produces...must hum like a trappist monk?
Be seeing you.

Other than a conversation piece, I cannot see any reason to buy such a Turntable.

Best Regards,

Solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

I can't claim to have heard the bearing on a SL1210, let alone on my mobil 1 oiled LP12 at home.

But I'm with Mr JBL, uV/mV signals near strong enough magnets to levitate your acetate 2" in the air, on a plinth, and move it?

CLever concept, but why.

It's such a relief to know they've changed the world forever as they put it. As said entirely needless and more offensive as an example of the general ignorance about what is actually going on outside.

Perhaps we are being harsh, if, and it is a big if, that the field to levitate doesn't enter the MM (moving magnet, I kid you not) cartridge, then happy days, cool as fook.

Like the details though. Three prongs rise up to hold platter when off. UPS to ride out power outage, which has enough juice to remove arm/stylus to side, raise supports and stop.

If it does as claimed, then beautiful, piece of unnecessary engineering wizardry. However, I can't see how you don't get magnetic spill into cartridge.

Unless it is a constant magnetic field. You need to alternate either the field, or the armature to generate an output (DC does not pass through a transformer for example, only AC). However, the tiny movement of the stylus in a constant field is enough to generate small AC in feed to pre, so small movement in big field of drive mechanism must generate some effect.

Looks cool though. Not sure it needs the under platter glow lights, but still damned clever.

What would have been really cool, is a levitating town arm too!

Still gonna get vibrational modes into arm from shelf?

I used to have a friend who had one of the those tones arms on an air blown rail, much like the air hockey game type idea. Terrible, but looked cool!

to be fair to them they don't make any claims that it sounds better than an normal turntable in any way. for$800 they might have thrown in a pre-amp, digital out, and a 78 function!

You all say this but I know an artist with a pair. Apparently sound great, good to mix on, and impervious to feedback.

We're gonna try em at an event sometime

Assuming that the field to levitate is DC and not changing (I've not checked any details myself) then the AC voltage of moving needle would superimpose on it and you'd remove any DC present in the signal with a blocking cap like any other source. That's my first guess anyway.
