SP'ers, the ongoing long debates & arguments are usually about heavyweights vs lightweight amps, so for all who prefer the back breaking amplifiers, out of the most available/affordable torrodial heavyweight amps, which do you all reckon/think/have proved/know sound the best?

Best meaning those which can hold them long long notes without splattering & panting!

Not only talking bout the loudset & not talking bout the speaker shredders!

So far I can think of....

Crest CA-18

Crest 9001

Crest 10001

C Audio SRxxx

DARQ PA18

Ashly FET2000

EV P3000

Naphon 1400

Crown 5000VZ

Crown Macro-Tech 10000VZ

Peavey CS4080HZ / CS4000 / GPS3400

Proline 3000

JTS UA6

QSC 5050

QSC MX3000/JBL MPX1200

Void Infinate 8 mkII

DESTRUCTOR x

DAP Vision 3500/5000

I know a few have must been left off so mention them & add if you like to compare.

Especially some of the European/USA amps!

Which one is the real daddy?

edit: More added to list.

You forgot the mighty EV P3000. Plus I would add Matrix XP3000, Ashly FET2000, QSC MX3000/JBL MPX1200 and C Audio SR to that list.

I have enjoyed sound through all of the above.

I like the sound of crest heavies on bass. Not heard quite a few on that list though. I could continue but it'll sound like a comment for a HiFi forum. If you were offering all those as free loans I'd go straight for the 9001.
Don't test the champignon sound

Was there a toroidal version made? I was under the impression that all XP:s were SMPS.

The Matrix 3000 (XP/STR) didn't feel heavy to lift when I tried it.

Think some people have just listed biggest amps they have heard.

"IMHO", if we're talking about amps that can do "the notes with quality", smaller amps in 4ohm bridge across 2x cabs, or larger amps across 4 ohm stereo, think we can trim that list down plenty.

Was gonna run off my top 10 list, but deleted it, in case few of the soundman get vex about secrets being released.. LOL

IMHO, sorry but if we're talking quality of sustained sub, you have to forget about stuff like MA5000VZ, XP3000 and a few others that are popular round here..  LOL

There's plenty of amps out there that sound sweet on sub, that many round here wouldn't consider.

Dont think it was vz, just Macro-Tech MA 10000. Havent ever heard one but with the requirement of a 3 phase power supply I always perfered the crest 10001 and its ability to drive true (20-20khz) 5Kw into 1ohm stereo . And that off a bi phase power supply.
edit - also a few undercover Roots sound sytem amps that blew me away Wink.
