Hey guys, when it comes to subs, since I have been told that generally a dual 15 gives more punch than a dual 18, why don't manufacturers build 15" versions?

Many manufacturers do have 15" bass cabinets. But they're not just a scaled down version of their 18" ones because that isn't how it works. Each cabinet has design goals to meet, usually 15" boxes are spec'd due to space and budget constraints. Some do have systems integrating both but as ever you pick your trade offs.

If you want a 15" box there are plenty out there.

My searches on the net haven't shown any reflex dual 15's with identical 18" versions.

I meant identical in design or to put it another way you take a dual 18" cab and have a dual 15 version made.

There are plenty of front-loaded mid/top cabs with 15´s and comp driver around, they´re pretty standard. 2 x 15" reflex for bass are rare. They are usually a more complex design, eg these:

Getting dual 15 reflex bins to drop really low and compete with 18´s is pretty difficult.

Oh I see. What if you scale down a popular 18 cab to a 15, is that possible? If yes then would the 15 produce more punch than the 18 or is that a myth?

no, it's not a myth

We manufacture dual 15" subwoofers and they sound great.
For many aplications 15" works better than 18"

The market for dual 15" subs is rather small , so that's why people don't build them. You can achieve the same thing using 2 single 15" subs.

Usually dual 18" is used in large touring systems , so there is no need for dual 15" for those applications.
Mobile dJ's usually go for compact, scalable systems

Thanks. If you want to scale down a dual 18" cab to a 15" version, how could that be done specs-wise?

You don't.

You design a dual 15" box then  take the volume of that design and set your outside dimensions to be in the same ratio as the 18" box you want it to look like. Ports can be same shape and in the same place but will need to be specific sizes based on the driver you choose to base your design around.
Keep pushing on, things are gonna get better.

Thanks, so one would need to do some mathematical calculations, is there any software which can do this like WinIsd, can you take a specific design and recalculate it or would you need only to go off what you mentioned above?
