Hi guys
I'm just about to buy a shure blx beta 58 system, then I thought well ... I have an old shure u2 S2 mic here, which is a beta 58 and I'm wondering if I bought a blx sm 58 could I use my old cartridge instead. Would it work Many thanks Kev |

All Shure capsules are interchangeable between all handheld Shure transmitters of any generation.

Thanks Peter but according to the blurb in Thomann's pages it's not the case, as I recall the girth of a pg58 is much wider than that of a sm58 and I wouldn't expect the bits to be interchangeable ?
Cheers Kev. My cartridge looks very much like something thomann are selling. https://www.thomann.de/gb/shure_r179_wechselkopf.htm?ref=search_rslt_Shure+blx+24r%2F+sm+58+_135797_34 Thanks. |

Oh that...
Well, the mesh grills are not all interchangeable, just like with their wired counterparts, but the entire capsules definately are 100% compatible. |

Ok Ta.
I don't understand it. "Up to the blx on this one " https://www.thomann.de/gb/shure_r179_wechselkopf.htm?ref=search_rslt_Shure+blx+24r%2F+sm+58+_135797_34 "Not for the blx " on this one https://www.thomann.de/gb/shure_r158_capsule.htm?ref=search_prv_3 Both units have three rings on the circuit board. I will just order it and see if it works. Thanks |

BLX and GLXD not because those have no replaceable cartridges, but integrated capsules in the body. Cheaper to make that way.
I would not take all the info provided on sites like Thomann, Bax and the likes too accurate. I've seen a lot of errors. I answered in general, but looking back now to your original question about buying BLX and using an older cartridge, I realize you can't interchange them on BLX. If you want that, better buy something like SLX.
