Won't the sound coming out the front cancel the sound from the back? Isn't that the whole idea of baffles?

Yup, speakers only work properly when coupled to a baffle and/or put in a box, especially on the bass end. That speaker will lose it´s voicecoil if driven hard.

The driver will radiate with an 8-shaped radiation pattern, as the cancelation is mostly at the sides.
I've done this with an 18LW1400 once, admittely it's the best bass I ever heard, terribly inefficient though, needed a few hundred Watts to get on a normal listening level.
Also tried it with an Lab12, I guess it was to small to be satisfactory.
That driver looks to be a 21LW1400, that shoukl be plentyl for every living room.

Im not going to Lie This rig (in the link) was mine a few years back. To be fair i was 17/18 and usually only did mobile discos at that point and knew very little about speaker management. We all started somewhere. Back in the planet's cretaceous period, my first rig consisted of a couple of home made double 12 cabs loaded with Mckenzie's powered by an old Carlsboro Valve amp. No subs or tweeters! |

Dont get this "culture" or whatever that should be at all! No Racks, nightmare to move this crap. All cabs ontop of these risers, loosing a huge amount of bass, hundreds of tweeters in a horrible combing "array", wires all over the place etc. And at the End its just a supid C*ck waving contest, no one enjoys it, no one dances, no one smiles :) Great way to spend your time and hard earned... LOL |
