    Posted: 11 December 2011 at 10:29am
Hello there, we've built 2 X1 Letterboxes, loaded with Void V18-1000s. We built them with handles half way up the port sides of the speaker, cut out of the wood with 3-4cm deep boxes behind them.

At the moment they sound good, but would filling these in and moving the handles elsewhere gain us anything in terms of power (or anything else)?

I don't have any other X1s to compare and contrast with, so i'm just trying to work out whether the work done in terms of filling, painting, re-cutting and re-building the handles would be worth it.

Thanks

I wouldn't bother if I was you, you should just build some hogs instead! Wink

Hey

Did you find out about the handles in ports? Or what would be the best handle and castors layout.
Just thinking of building a few letterbox X1's myself,

Thanks, james

oh and on topic.. by putting handles in the ports you have changed the tuning of the cabinets... putting handles anywhere on a x1 will change the tuning.. as there is no obvious non intrusive place to put them... however you shouldn't need handles as the ports work well for them anyway.

Hey calculus,

Cheers for the reply. Do you run pangea by any chance? Is it the drop the bass guys selling their x1's. I was chatting to the serenity crew at benny page and i think they mentioned something about someone selling. Do you know how much they want for the cabs? My X1's dont have handles and i know what you mean the ports are pretty handy for moving around

Yes indeed that is me, drop the bass folded ages ago, but it is kinda related to them... They are letterbox style x1's painted black, loaded aswell (not sure what with, i suspect 1850's) I think he'd take between £600-£700 for the pair. They are very good builds and have hardly been used.

We've built a second pair without handles, and really can't tell the difference sound-wise. I think we'll be putting some in these as the handles are handy for maneuvering them around my... ahem... 'compact' van. The ports are all well and good but I need to be able to twist them round some mad axes to get them in the right place during loading.
