X15 Drivers - 2014 - £50-100 price range, used or new,

Not interested in heavy cone sub drivers, cab will not be used full-range, sub not a priority

What do people recommend, for use 100hz - 1.6khz?

For testing and house parties above sub, so no recommendations for spending more "please". LOL

What about those Sovereign 15-500's you have? TS parameters seem within reasonable range.

Need drivers with flatter response above 1.2khz in reflex, tall order for many 15" with 3"+ voice coil.

That's only reason I'm selling the pair of Fane Sov Pro 15-500s.

Actually needed drivers that are not as strong, with smaller voice coil. LOL

More realistic crossover point for 15" mid would be somewhere around 600-800hz range, 1khz tops.

Why? Two reasons: beaming & cone resonance/breakup.

Of course if you are cheap and choose too small horn and compression driver, you'll end up with 1,6khz crossover or so... But that's just cheap and nasty.

Personally I have heard, tuned and measured enough examples of this.

If you are limited by cab size, you can't always fit huge 2" horn, & have to make do with 15"+1".

PD123ER & few other 15" drivers make decent attempt at 1khz-2khz, especially if cab not run below 80hz.

I have Gauss and gerbils that are cool upto there, but they are hard to find and for those with a light touch. I still use a 12 to bridge from the 15 to the 1", sounds nicer.

blue aran had the pd153er on special a while ago... they're supposed to be pretty good up high.

i've only tried a few 15" reflex drivers in this setup, the old p-audio sn15mb is the one i've been the happiest with.

Think combination of Correct 15", 1"/1.4" and engineering skills allows decent sound, be it at reduced SPL.

Otherwise, Rog wouldn't have suggested design for 15"+1", and many manufacturers wouldn't produce this, in powered format either.

Power handling not really the issue, 400W would suffice, if Ref efficiency 3.5%+.

Really need VC no larger than 2.5"-3", approx fs=50hz, and resp upto 2khz.
