Hello all, i was at the dance and believe me it was a real eye opener, the dance had a vibe that i have never witnessed before, brilliant. I was in my element, Ive only ever heard King Earthquake with one stack at Dubfest, @ Subdub he played with two stacks of three and sounded awsome, Iration Steppa's also sounded exellent, no faults at all, both sounds played brilliant and exiting dubs.
King Earthquake played; Gregory Isaacs, Rod Taylor, Ranking Joe, all exclusive on dubplate. Iration Steppa's played; Horace Andy, Ranking Joe, Eek a mouse all exclusive on cd. The whole night was exellent, both sounds playing in harmony, and yes it did take a long while to recover, the atmosphere was electric, well done to both sounds, it was well worth the travel. |

Things and times have changed, how it was then isn't how it is now, we all remember the dances back in the day to be good times, but you see, Jamaica isn't producing the same material now as back then, which in my opinion is why a lot of the older sounds stopped playing, so i think its unfair to compare the music and sounds of today to the music and sounds of yesteryear, you could say they are both different sides of the same coin. When i go to both types of dance i accept them for what they are. The UK has taken the opportunity in carrying on roots and culture in their own way obviously influenced by Jamaican producers but without live bands so now you dont get that authentic feel, no one is to blame so again i say its unfair to compare.

I'm glad to see Headbanger pointing out the importance of the music played, AND the responses from people who did listen as well as enjoying the session!
As to the interest of which sudios/productions they were.... well thats a tight thing with sounds nowadays, just like the old days. Most of Errols tunes are his own productions, and the way he plays/knows them is part of the strength of his sound, he definatley has impact where ever he plays. Nuff respect for how he's come (back) in to the scene at the top, doin his thing and not waiting for others to 'rate' him, the crowd see it and feel it! As for Iration, all the specials would be from his own studio, with riddims built by himself and Dennis Rootical. Many tunes he plays would be from the UK stalwarts: Disciples, Muffet, Keety Roots, Alpha & Omega, Vibronics as well as newer folks like Dubateers and some European producers, and further afield. As for the special dubs... most of thats closed door business. I never made the session, sounds like i missed out. I'll be at the SE1, just down the road from me. Look forward to a part two, and hoping Aba joins in!! |

So people go to dances to hear both headbanger, they are both as important as each other. If I payed money to a dance and heard a bad system I would have to get my money back
and nbe very diassapionted, and yes i will go away talking about what a bad night i had , thats not good for the scene is it??
so time for a change if you want dances to carry on, "Get ya sh*t together, your playing to the public" Edited by mykey - 06 November 2007 at 4:19am |

GREETINGS AND RESPECT, BUT MY EXPERIENCE HAS SHOWN ME THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO HAVE THE BEST SOUNDING SOUND OR THE HEAVIEST SOUND TO RIP UP A DANCE. IN NORTH LONDON WE NEVER HAD THE HEAVIEST SOUNDS BUT THEY REPRESENTED!! IF YOU HEARD FATMAN OR UNITY BACK IN THE DAY YOU WOULD KNOW.
I WENT TO A DANCE IN WEMBLEY WITH JAH VOICE, EARTHQUAKE, DISCIPLES AND IRATION. IRATION WAS NOT THE HEAVIEST SOUND, IN FACT HE SOUNDED TERRIBLE THAT NIGHT, TECHNICAL PROBLEMS GALORE, BUT HE PLAYED 2 TOUGH SPECIALS THAT STEALED THE SHOW AS FAR AS MANY A MAN WAS CONCERNED "YOU DONT KNOW OF" MICHAEL PROFIT SPECIAL!!!! ON A MUFFET RIDIM I THINK.
IF YOU NOTICE EARTHQUAKE DOES NOT PLAY IN FOREIGN UNLESS HE CAN BRING HIS SOUND BECAUSE THE DELIVERY IS CRUCIAL TO THE KING EARTHQUAKE EXPERIENCE, HE IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT. YOU CANNOT BE CALLED EARTHQUAKE AND PLAY ON A REGULAR SOUND, IT WOULD NOT BE THE SAME! FOR HIM THEY ARE AS IMPORTANT AS EACH OTHER.
IF YOU HAVE GROWN UP ON THE "HEADBANGING" BOOF BOOF THING I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY YOU COME TO THAT CONCLUSION....... BUT TRUST ME OVER TIME YOU WILL LEARN!!!!
