Traveller, from what I've heard, SE1 has a slightly different feel. Not been myself, or to any UOD (much to my frustration).

Humble, agreed!
There's some characters at subdub, but the vibe is right so I personally aint arguing!

Tru Tru,

Must admit that over the years have realised that its far more then herbs and ting that people are using at these dances. so its expected to see exponential increase in madup patrons in these dances.

Just hope that they dont take over the dances.

Respeks still.

You're right Humble, but tbh I don't see it as a problem. As long as someone nuh trouble me, why should I trouble them?

The new generation coming to these events are (I think) seeking refuge from the commercial club scene. You can go to a dance like this one and no drunkard will try start beef fi beef sake, or try and feel up every woman in the place.

I don't really care what people take. I don't tell them what to take, and I respect that they afford me the same courtesy. As long as I can hear good tune all night I'm happy.

Also bear in mind that these 'madup patrons' buy tickets. If you don't sell enough tickets, you don't make enough to pay for the sound (and I don't mean salaries and ting, I mean venue hire, transport, power etc) and if you can't pay for the sound you don't have a dance.

They are helping keep the dances alive. For this I am grateful.

Yes J, i totally agree with you on that, they are helping to keep things going, and i'm assuming that it is for this reason why the sounds are playing more and more high tech dubs, there isn't enough of our own roots people coming out to fill a dance hall. Or is it the other way round

Times change Traveller. it's like in the 80s when some sounds moved away from roots and started playing dancehall. Only a stalwart few stayed with the roots vibe. It's swings and roundabouts.

There has always seemed to me to be a contradiction in dub as a whole. In early days it was all about giving people sounds they had never heard before (e.g. the siren). Now it seems more about staying true to what was.

I know people slate iration for playing more techno-ish dubs, but I disagree. They are the vanguard of dub. they push the boundaries and in doing so are going to annoy some people. It's the risk you run. i like to hear conscious tune too, and iration can deliver. But sometimes I just wanna bounce! Earthquakes dubs when heard away from his system sound far more hi-tech, but i would never accuse him of not being a conscious sound!

I'm not trying to start beef with you Trav, just putting my thoughts down.
Respect.
Jho.

No offense taken J, i got an honest answer and thats what counts, but this is exactly what i'm trying to say, i've heard Iration Steppa's and they come over very techno, King Earthquake used to play very hardcore deep conscious tunes back in the day, yet now they are also on the techno trip, and i'm wondering if its because of the influx of todays attendees, don't get me wrong, i really love all this new age techno stuff, it really does keep you going.
