Have been talking to few mates, and they seem to prefer 1" comps above 2" as opposed to Bullets/SuperTweeters.

Expensive solution for this would be DE250..

Do Celestions/Beyma 1" sound better above 8k?

You probably do not need the power handling of the DE250 at these frequencies.
Have a look at the B&C DE12 or BMS H4524. Both sound superb at higher frequencies. I personally would cross at about 5-6 K

Cheers for that.

I'm sure the 2" comps I've got (Selen 305TI) will go upto 10K no sweat, so crossing in 1" comps at 8K should mean high powered flat sounding high end. The Lucky comps would have ME45s to look forward to.LOL

I am really looking for the 15K+ sizzle, you get with Slot Bullets/SuperTweeters. So I'll be ABing 1x comp vs 2x Supertweeters @ 8K plus to hear which I prefer.. (I already own 12x APT50s).

levyte357...

i always wondered if the diagram or the throat size make the "compression" size... if you have a 2 inch diaphram and a 1 inch throat,  is that a 1 inch or 2 inch compression driver?

The 1" or 2" or 1.4" for that matter refers to the final throat dia before it start the expansion, it is the dia of the hole where it mates with the driver.
The diaphragms on 1" throat comps can be up to 3" dia or even larger.

As a general rule, most 1" exit compression drivers will have between 1" and 2" diaphragm, the majority being 1.75".  1.4" and 2" exit compression drivers tend to have 3" diameter diaphragms but some modern ones are as small as 2.5" and some are up to 4".

There are also models by people like BMS,B&C,Community which effectively use a small cone driver rather than a conventional compression driver diaphgram.  They tend to be usable much lower in frequency as more of a midrange driver.

Just found a thread I started on this topic few months ago (oopsShocked).

So, the much bigger debate is, which of these combos will give Highest power handling/SPL AND flattest response from 1khz to  approx 18khz?

a) 2" plus Bullets or Super tweeters
b) 2" plus 1"
c) Hornloaded 6" + 1"
d)Hornloaded 8" + 1"

I am a bit biased towards 2" + Supertweeters.. Maybe due to me owning 4x 2" comps, 2x 2" horns, and 12x APT80s, and 2x Link Dynamics 8ohm 8khz passive xovers... LOL

However I do also have 2x ME45s, and am seriously looking at DE25, CDX1755.

Insomnia is also selling 8" FG Xtro horns as well.Wink

Also to be Added to list of comparisons are

e) Beyma CP755TI
f) B&C DE600

Cost of 8" driver + 8" fg Horn +1", is actually more expensive than above 2x comps.

6+1 horn loaded for my money or 6 horn (plugged)+ super tweeters.

the beyma does look rather tasty though i have to admit, even not liking comps i can see the appeal of that beast.
