Have been phoning around today. No Luck in finding a proper Hi-Fi 8". Fostex drivers are rediculousley priced. f**k that. There is one candidate though. Its a 45w 8" at an electronics shop around da corner. Paper cone, nice big Rubber surround, Huge magnet and textile dustcap. No T/S though. 1m SPL is 90dB supposbly. So, I've been thinking now. Hive my bro my old hi-fi component piece of crap. Then build the 12" scoop with something like the 100W P-Audio HP-12W inside. The boxes will be standing in corners anyways. So that should help with extension. The other thing is the the HP-12W is kak slow with something like an 80 odd EBP value. FS is @ 48Hz so it would probably work for Hi-Fi boxes to rape at parties. Will stick a nice top end in da box with it and x at about 1.8K - 2K. The pioneer reciever boasts with 150W per channel so I will stick them on the 'B' channel.
I basically know f**k-all about scoops so what do ya lot think. Will it work? The bass EQ will also be set HARD. Should I try it? And the other thing, The box will be huge for hi-fi so it will look moer impressive fo everyone else when the see the 'big horn' standin in my lounge as 'mains'. Will build it with ply and spray it with polurethan varnish. |

sounds nice epecially if you run a nice large round over piece around the edge on the router and use 13 lam ply she would look a beut,,
the only thing iv found with using pa speakers on hifi is they tend not to have such a good frequancy responce as a hifi cone, hifi cones are usually alot easyer to move thus alowing then to go alot deeper, i was going to give you a few links to some comapies that supply 12" hifi drivers but realized your from South Africa,,, the other thing is you could mount the tweeter or two in the top corners of the cabinet, that way the whole thing would be in one box.... |

Not such a good idea I don't think, although I've seen it before.
Wouldn't it be better to have the tweeter in a separate box at head height level or better still over head height ?
Having it/them in the scoop at low level would muffle your top end sound especially if someone stood in front of it or passed by in front of it.

The cabs wont be used as the main system. They will be used when I want to make a noise. I've got a set of 10" SEAS' as mains, but they are just not loud enough for parties.

i was just thinking because of the use being home hifi you want the tweeter to be as close to the main driver as possable as not to sound too separated, most hifi cabinets have them as close as they can get them, some like tannoy, kef, etc use dual concentric drivers where the tweeter is in the middle of the driver itself, thats how concous about the theory thay are...
hope this helps |

Hp-12W is a driver more suited for a satelite than a Scoop sub
My advice is to look at something else |

PD.12SB30 is a good scoop driver for a 12 inch scoop.
For an 8 inch scoop use either PD.8BM20 rated 200w rms, 2 inch vc [4.5mm xmax,BL 13,Qts 0.34] or B&C 8 PS21 rated 200w rms, 2 inch vc, [5mm xmax, BL 12.6,Qts 0.33] or Beyma 8G40 rated 250w rms, 2.5 inch vc[ 4.5mm xmax, BL 14.1,Qts 0.31] The Beyma 8G40 seems like the best one with highest power handling, 2.5 inch vc, highest BL, lowest Qts, 2nd highest xmax. |

I'm going to use these cabs to play loud music @ parties @ my house and probably f**k them up. It's to much of a hassle to carry my 15" cabs in and to wire the whole ting every time. I'm looking for something that I can run off my receiver. It needs to be in the 100-200w region and have a sens. of about 95dB odd. I'm not going to buy expensive drivers to just go and f**k up. PD isn't available in S.A. and beyma's too expensive for what I want to do. The shops in Cape Town stock all sorts of woofers without any T/S parameters. What parameters should I look for anyways for what I want to do?
