Have any of You had any experience of said drivers? These seem to have good funds/fun ratio, with almost 15mm Xmax, Fs 31Hz, Qts 0,3 etc I'm about to build 4pcs of BR singles to go for smaller gigs instead of my huge tapped horns. Intended usage 30-130Hz with huge venturi vent of 1/2Sd.... Asks Andy, the impatient little builder

This is an updated version of the 18lw2500, pretty much designed for Scoops.
I would suggest 18lw2420 if need driver for reflex, and must be 18sound. But you need box optimised for driver. B&C 18TBX100 or Fane Prime XS, maybe less fussy, in dropping in existing boxes. Original PD186MK1, drops in Gsub or B&C bcsub18 design, no problem and rocks.

Not to walk over Your huge experince, but 18sound datasheet suggests them as bass reflex only. I even sent them an e-mail and asked about other types of suitable enclosures, but no response yet....

Try comparing the T/S Parms between the 18LW2500/18LW2600.
BL 》 30, definitely does not say vented cab to me. Maybe use Winisd to model/Compare above drivers against 18TBX100, PD186MK1, FANE PRIME XS in 200L enclosure. Was an 18sound distributor who told me18LW2500 was optimised for Scoops, and 18LW2600 is newer version. And people I know, said 18LW2500 Had weak cone.

Counterpoint: almost every recent high Bl driver in manufacturer inventories was developed for high output reflex cabinet purposes. The kind with a large, simulated and flared port.
Check out Don Keele’s (public) papers on true efficiency as to why that may be. The 18sound page for the 18LW2600 even states explicitly that it’s optimised for reflex cabinets. |

There is a further back story to this, about why the 18LW2500, in terms of T/S Parms, bears more than slight resemblance to PD1851/PD1852/Turbomax Redeye 18, all top of the line Scoop drivers, but I will not mention it here.. The 18LW2600 is the successor to the 18LW2500, and I guess a driver would sell more, if it is marketed as a reflex/vented driver. |

Ik always like those double magnet woofers, they seem to offer more true x-max.

Thanks Toasty and Levyte. This Keele paper was quite interestind read. https://www.xlrtechs.com/dbkeele.com/PDF/Keele%20(2003-10%20AES%20Preprint)%20-%20Nom%20vs%20True%20Eff%20High%20BL.pdf The flared port part is another matter, but with such large air quantities moved, which is possible by modern high xmax drivers, a neccessity to keep the box tuning stabile, and box efficiency on the high side at high SPL. Was it some JBL white paper about this? This all is what this forum should be all about, dispersing knoledge. Last night I sketched a 215Lnet BR cab with venturi port with start and end area of 1200cm2 and the middle constricted section of 600cm2, with paper and pencil of course. Ended up quite big box for single 18" There was next problem, how to model the thing? After all I modeled it in hornresponse as backloaded horn with 215L throat chamber and converging-straight-diverging horn section as reflex tube. Maybe Akabak is next in line. The Keele paper gave answer to my wonderings about lowish and bumpy low end sensitivity. Probably I sholdn't be afraid to eq the hell out of it. There may be need to add a resonator to the reflex tube to kill the 176Hz peak.....and the straight section after the rear volume is in fact a 90degree turn inside the cabinet.... Seems to be sawdust time after my vacation is over. Sadly one cab eats more than two sheets of 4'by8' 18mm ply. -Andy

2500 had issues. So it was discontinued only few years after release.
Not sure what was fixed at the 2600 but it sure models very very good in a reflex box. 2500 was also positioned very badly in the price point. It was more expensive then the TLW3000. Now that is fixed too.

Got some suitable empty cabinets (ex jbl 2245) to try my 18LW2600's, instead of building them with insane ply prices. Vb 420L for two, tuned to 31Hz, tubes 4x 160mm. Quick 'n dirty processing needed +4dB shelf from 43Hz downwards and one notch at 140Hz, 24dB HP 24Hz & LP 110Hz Got them to first gig also, unfortunately at civilized volume corporate rock 'n roll event.... I'm very pleased with the results. I can only imagine 'em at war volume in apropriate venturi port cabinet, bangin proper techno and ambient Cheers, Andy
