Looney bins are a modified design of the 1850 horn which goes slightly lower and has 3 dB more output.  Rog made the changes and they use Void drivers.

come on, lets be clear.....

yes the looney bin is a modified 1850.
The cab in the picture is an 1850, except with the braces like those found on a looney bin, rather than the braces found on the plans.

To find the plans goto speakerplans.com then click plans, horns, then 1850.

I could just post a link, but do some legwork yourself, it should be easy to find.

do you know if the difference between the 1850 and the looney bin is very important ?i know it goes slightly lower and has 3 dB more output  but the kick is more hard or not ? does you already ear the looney bin ?

In response to your email, please let me explain....

The plan of the modified 1850 known as the Looney bin is not publicly available, as with most comercially manufactured speakers. Manufacturers do not wish to give away their intellectual property. If the Looney bin is exactly what you want, then you must buy one, else build a 1850, for which you are welcome to the plans, courtesy of that nice man Rog Mogale.

May I suggest building an 1850 and putting a Void driver in it, but please, you MUST check if this is possible, ask if someone else has done this, to be sure that driver fits in the box and it works well.

I have neither built an 1850 or used the Void driver so I can not be responsible for this advice.

I hope you understand this english.

to what i know, the rear chamber would need to be increased by 5-10 litres and the void V18-1000 is actualy a rather tight fit...

this is going by what i remeber from a past posting about this.

Hi all,
Those blue folded horns are my mine they were built by my friend and are exactly the same design as the 1850 horn but with a 'looney' style brace.

We have our loaded with the V1000 and have no problems with space.
Keep to the original plans as the site.  The driver will fit.  They kick arse.
The 'drunken master' strikes again.

I'd increase the rear chamber by a few litres anyway, any driver is a tight fit!  Coolest thing is making the rear chmber larger than it needs to be, then fill up the interior to play with the volume (have used small house bricks at the sides  b4, not a permanent solution!!)

cheers

I may be wrong but isnt it a bit confusing having a pic of the outside of an 1850 and the inside of a WSX!  The lower pic is def a WSX or something very similar.
