Does 186 horn need wadding? And what are the recommended hp frequencies, types and slopes for a stand alone, a group of 2, and a stack of 4?

Id start at ~45hz HP atleast 2nd order. Some one else can elaborate.Perhaps a forum search would help.

for ~1Kw per cab i'd go with, as a starting point,
1 cab 60hz
2 cabs 55hz
4 cabs 50hz
for 24dB/oct
can use higher slope but with LR24 can use cheapo analogue x-over Scope the cut frequency tho (if it's a cheap crossover 60hz could easily be 40 )
Coolest thing is to put a perspex (plexiglass) window in the rear chamber cover so you can actually see the excursion when setting up. Can also inferr if your amplifier is feeding it china-watts too
Most important thing is keeping well inside the xmech of your driver during set-up, then u can really beat up the horns later & not do too much reconing!
cheers,
Rob

Is the hp frequency so high? I was told a single cab with a kw could be used with 50Hz hp filter, and a stack even lower. I use a dbx driverack PA as crossover, it uses digital filters, so I think is quite accurate. The amplifiers are two Crown MA2400 4ohms bridged mono for 4 cabs loaded with RCF L18P300 |
