Hi everyone
I built a subwoofer (like a home cinema sub), and I need to find a solution to amp it. Passive subs kind of suck. It would be best if its portable as well so I would prefer something 12v/24v which also has the possibility to also be powered from AC power supply if needed. I thought maybe a Sure 100w amp (I need about 50w +), plus some batts, but Im not sure how I would build a filter to remove all the frequencies apart from bass??? Sorry... newb shit.. I know. Can you buy a sub cross over on ebay or something!? It doesnt need to be adjustable, that would just be a bonus. A volume or input adjuster would be good but not 100% necessary. What kind of input does a sub need, just a line in (mono)? Keep it ghetto. Any ideas for this? Thanks.... A

Thinks it's probably a waste to use a tripath amp for sub duty. And it's not really that amp types strength either. I have good experience with this amp $100 including freight. |

Is that the same amp as the PE clearout?
And yes, tripaths are disappointing on bass IMO.

No idea. Just know they work great for a add-on sub duty as it only has speaker inputs, auto-on sensing, pretty good efficiency, built-in sub filter and decent output into lower impedances typically found on suitable speakers like the Eminence Delta-12LFC. |

There was a blowout at PE where I think these went for $10 a pop or something ridiculous. All the american DIY forums went nuts over them- and for good reason!
Alphabetikal, what's this subwoofer then?

hey
thanks for the suggestions on that amp. they are saying 60USD to ship to the UK? what the hell? $30 is good for the amp tho. maybe i can find it somewhere else, cos it looks great, has built in sub filter too which is great. About the sub, its an interesting build from a REL sub woofer which I got from this forum into my own box, looks kind of cool, ill upload a post about it soon as I get done unpacking (just moved house!) peace |

also... 'Speaker level inputs only' ...does that mean you have to run a channel from your amp (L or R) or would a 'sub out' connection on a 2.1 amp also be 'speaker level'?

It actually has a mono line level input for a pre-filtered signal like your "sub out" would be but normally you'd just parallel connect them onto your existing speakers, they're hundreds of ohm in the input so don't worry about it overloading your primary amp. I haven't tested it with a mono line level input however, and the auto-on sensing might not work as well, or at all. It's normally used with car head unit sub outs which are quite high voltage.

How much are you looking to spend? I have exactly what you are looking for but would have to do a custom designed filter for you
