There is driving, and there is driving.

At recent amp test, all the "so called", 3/4K per channel @ 4 ohms amplifiers, would have thermalled well before getting the Tmax 1500s out of bed.

Tmax 1500s, hpf < 40hz, and lightweights often don't seem to work out.

Have you ever used a k series? Especially a k20 @ 9krms at 2r

Here's a couple of graphs which I found, testing the K6 & K10.

DIM100 vs Power (DIM = dynamic intermodulation distortion, see notes in PDF)

The K10 is rated by Powersoft's specs to be capable of 4kW per channel at 4 ohms.

Of course the measurement used here is slightly different, however it appears as though the K10 can do:-

3.2kW per channel at 4 ohms @ 0.1% DIM

3.7kW per channel at 4 ohms @ 1% DIM

4.5kW per channel at 4 ohms @ 3% DIM

How well does it achieve this output vs. time I hear you ask.  Here's another graph then....

So it turns out the K10 is pretty decent at 4 ohms or 8 ohms.  However at 2 ohms the power drops off rapidly after 1 second - so not all that ideal for heavy duty cycle bass lines.

Can someone help me to understand the benefits of using 1500 watt drivers when they demand more of everything? I'm a bit baffled as I only use 800 watt drivers that works wonders. If I somehow have these 1500 watt drivers before any amp, then I would get a big a*s amp, but the only way that would happen is if I were given the drivers.... FREE. Please anyone, edify me of what I am missing.

Here are the Lev .44 scoops I designed, loaded with PD1852s, being used at Golden Palace couple of weeks ago,

Here's the Rack powering them,

Notice K10 on sub.Wink

In the same venue, at the same gig, there was also a K20, in the Motion54 rig, powering 4x PD1851 loaded scoops.

All on 32A.

So, yes, know what Powersoft K series can do, and sound like.

LOL

Like all lightweight amps, they won't sustain specified output power on a sine wave bench test, or output full specified power into subs, but at least the very best lightweights will do 2 ohm sub, with enough power for "most" of of the drivers out there, with half decent sensitivity.

There are a couple roots/dub sounds I know currently using K20 to run 8 x sub and does it with ease.
Also I've used K20 to drive 8 x PD1852 loaded minis playing heavy roots tunes at Black Roots album launch with negus melody as guest sound also playing on our set. The K20 was just cruising all night.

For all interested, come and see it for yourself at Trinity Centre in Bristol this Friday 25th Jan. Kibir La Amlak and Abashanti.

Or you can see K20 on 8 x 1852 loaded full scoops on March 30th at Tower Ball Room in Birmingham.

I don't know how they do it, but it seems to me all logics and facts in electronic science doesn't apply to Powersoft K series

Sensible man.

I wouldn't want to spend that much money on an amp cos someone on here I'd never met before told me to.
